Nope, there is more reasons than that...like the meltdown over a supposed non rival for cruising in their so called 3rd tier bowl game.

LJ Scott just said he is returning for his senior season at MSU. WTF? Big mistake.

He didn't even play against Michigan. And Michigan still managed to get humiliated.

Not a bad decision at all if you ask me. I know we all want to see him go, but he had some fumble problems and off the field issues this year, and a season without these things would go a long way for his stock.

Game in EL will be intense.
December 29th, 2017 at 12:55 AM ^
Yeah, they were impressive tonight. They lose only Allen from their offense. They lose only a mediocre Frey and Cooper from their defense. They will be a tough team next season and they get us and Ohio State at their place.

Um,
no no no
You must be new here.
MSU has been lucky for a decade and got 3 lucky big tens in 5 years.
MSU only wins when weather somehow favors them but not the other team
MSU Only beat a bunch of 10 teams from 2010-2015 because michigan wasn't good during that time period. Brady Hoke directly influenced how TCU, Stanford, OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, etc. played against MSU.
Please get a grip and learn how to post at MgoBlog. MSU can win as many football games as they want. those dont matter here. we have twitter and recruiting stars.

Yeah. State has a good program. Not any big newsflash. Dang good coach and a decade of continuity. And even if that doesn't change for another 10 years, no reason at all Michigan can't win 8 or more out of the next 10 meetings.
Just the fact of a functioning division 1 quarterback who can hit basic throws sure will help the team look vastly different than the outfit we put out there this year.
I wouldn't trade Michigan's upside with any big program in the country who made a bowl this year. Maybe UCLA because Kelly is that good at the college level.
But that would be the only one.
Reading the game article and stats, I was surprised MSU did as well as they did last night. Flip teams losing their starting quarterbacks, probably flip the score. But great win by them.
Both programs can be good and Michigan can beat them yearly. The world is different from the late 80s but it's not THAT different if Michigan is humming along with a coach like Harbaugh.
The loss this year brought back a lot of the weird State obsession to this board I hoped was disappearing.

That's cute. Unfortunately, your coach brings up UM every chance he gets.
Despite MSU's success, we still refer to the game against OSU as...THE GAME. I can appreciate how that must sting a little.

I hate to be that guy, but the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
MSU has been a very strong team under Dantonio, and nobody can honestly argue against that. He's gotten plenty of lucky breaks (more than just about anyone, really), but he must be credited with taking advantage of them rather than farting away their opportunities like the Spartans did in the past.
There's no doubt that this is a real rivalry now, I'm excited to see what Michigan can do with solid quarterbacking.

football game in which Sparty faced a second-string QB. Is this somehow shrewd coaching, as the Spartan faithful would argue, or just dumb luck? Anyway, Brian Lewerke was again the heart and soul of the Sparty offense.
As was true the entire season, in the Holiday Bowl Lewerke was the team's second-leading rusher, compiling 73 yards on 14 attempts, for a decent 5.2/ypc average. His ability to scramble gave receivers time to get open. Last night he was 13/21 through the air for 213 yards and 3 TDs. I turned the game off at the end of the half, but it looked as if the WSU Cougars were just mailing it in. This apparent lack of effort might have made Lewerke look better than he actually is.
This past season, against another team we're all familiar with that also had to start a second-string QB, Brian didn't fare anywhere near as well. In the "Monsoon Bowl" he rushed 15 times for a net 61 yards and was the team leader in that department --- RB Scott didn't play against M. Brian threw for a mediocre 11 of 22 for 84 yards and one TD. We all know that in the second half Darth Dantonio decided to just hunker down, sit on his 14 points and see whether JOK could beat him. Well, although JOK was 16 of 36 (!) for 198 yards, he also threw 3 picks and was sacked four times --- Darth decided deftly.
But the point here is that to control Lewerke is to control the entire Spartan offense. Notre Dame did it, the Buckeyes did it in spades. Even Northwestern did it. M really did it as well, but the effort went for naught because of what happened on the other side of the LOS. Still, this coming October M will again have the D to contend with Lewerke, and this it'll time have the offense to beat him. Go Blue.
