Detnews story about Peters and the QBs

Submitted by 1VaBlue1 on

Angelique recap'd the Inside Michigan Football show from last night.  Peters said he was knocked unconscious for "30-40 seconds" against UW.  That's not something we really didn't know, but it was never stated.  Also talked about the QB situation - from Brandon:

“I don’t really care,” Peters said. “It’s going to happen at the NFL level, the college level, you’re going to bring guys in. That’s just how things happen. You can’t really get into your emotions so much. You have to worry about what you can do and stay in the position you want to be in. So you just gotta work and can’t let anything affect you.”

She also quoted Harbaugh on the QB's:

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, speaking to reporters Wednesday night, described what he thinks the approach should be for all three quarterbacks, including McCaffrey.  “Like anybody in the program, he has the license and the ability to be a starter,” Harbaugh said of Patterson. “As I told all three of the quarterbacks at the same time, the only thing that’s guaranteed here is an opportunity.

Here is the story link.  It's nothing we haven't figured out for ourselves, but its nice to hear it from the direct source.

He always looks like he is half awake. I like my quaterbacks to be vocal and in command, which i think Shea brings. Peters game is solid, but his vocal leadership must improve. Either way M has solid quaterback play moving forward, which killed us in 17.

May the best man win. Even if Milton wins the job next year I don't care. As long as whoever gives Michigan the best chance to win is on the field, I'm okay with whoever plays.

All the "odds" in the post....

The most interesting thing to consider or place your best on might be whether or not one guy is able to earn the starting job in the first game and keep the job all year.    I would give those low odds.    I think it would be more likely to be injury shuffling the lineup than performance.    Bottom line is I think we will see all of them on the field in 2018, and I'm going to root my ass off for all of them.

Three highly-touted QBs.  One football.  One starter come the ND game in late August 2018, or whenever.

Peters:  We have a decent, but not extensive, sample size of Peters under center and certainly under fire, running Harbaugh's offense (and running from oncoming blitzers).  I'd give him an "incomplete" or "to be determined" grade-wise with his limited action.  Made some throws; missed some easy throws.  Seems to have touch on his passes.  Purportedly possesses a strong arm and can make all the throws.  Seemed to have a grasp of the offense even though he apparently didn't have the whole playbook.

McCaffrey:  Who the hell knows?  Good athletic DNA.  Highly-rated.  A complete mystery as far as an outsider looking in can tell.

Patterson:  We know what he can do in a read option, which is nothing like the pro stuff UM is running.  Hasn't been in a system where he has to do a ton of evaluation at the line of scrimmage--coaches do that for him from the sideline.  Obviously this kid is athletic enough to keep plays alive and has a good arm.  I'm guessing he has leadership qualities and a "we can do this!" attitude that is infectious for those in the huddle with him.  I think that is a possible missing piece for Peters.  If you've played sports, that quality in a QB especially is not to be underestimated in its importance.  I see this guy as the starter under the lights in South Bend for that reason, assuming they are all close talent-wise.

Will there be another QB accepted in the next class? Specifically if Doyle sends in his LOI. Not much playing time to go around. Minnesota and Maryland should be forced to accept our leftovers, for the sake of B10 watchers everywhere.
