Too funny! How do you get that wrong? Sure that isn't last years paper?
lol

Made sure to capture the date printed right there above Jon Gruden's Bucs visor, too.

Is this a new thing to attract younger people to print additions?

I do enjoy living in a world where the header about a newspaper mistake has a typo in it!

Someone googled "Outback Bowl 2017" to find out the team that would be playing this year. You know, since it's still 2017 right now.
December 18th, 2017 at 11:02 AM ^
Just ask ESPN.
December 18th, 2017 at 11:15 AM ^
That's exactly what happened. Which means either the editors of the Sports page don't know anything about sports, or were too lazy to realize the Google search of "2017 Outback Bowl" also shows the final score of the game.

You'd think that someone working in the sports section of the local paper would know who's playing in the well established, New Years Day bowl game hosted by the paper's city. Good grief...

When that whoopin's over, some of that person's body parts will be lookin' like a BLOOMIN' ONION.

… this is on the advertising department, not the writers or editors. Having worked there, it's likely no one from editorial got to see the ad before this went to press.

… way out into the weeds of how newsrooms tend to work, but no, not typically. Virtually all the digital proofs reviewed in the sports department would show the editorial content with empty spaces for ad placement. It's possible there could be one person at the very end of the night with the opportunity to see the complete page with both editorial content and ads, but they're not concerned with finding errors in the advertising. The advertising department is gone long before page proofs are available. So if someone with the opportunity to correct this mistake were to catch it on a proof, it would be sheer luck/coincidence.)

in one thread, plus I now have my own parody account. Guess I pissed someone off
December 18th, 2017 at 9:50 AM ^
I like that you called it ths sporps section. Is that also a typo or irony?
December 18th, 2017 at 9:51 AM ^
No games.
Just sporps.

We don't have enough "What Women Want" references around here. Thanks for remeding that!

I always like it when Brian & Co. use "sporps" to refer to the sports entertainment industry at large.
December 18th, 2017 at 9:51 AM ^
You found it in the sporps section!

the genius editor of the display advertising section made the sensible assumption that the Gators and the Hawkeyes play each other every year in Tampa.

Just another example of why newspapers are going the way of the dinosaur.
There only seems to be the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the LA Times. If you are reading anything else newspaper wise (with a few exceptions), you are wasting your time.
December 18th, 2017 at 10:18 AM ^
Those allegedly exalted outlets are not exempt. The Post is my local paper and they have their share of typos and mistakes. Their only saving grace is that they are heavily read so their mistakes get noticed quickly and they are able to correct them quickly.
December 18th, 2017 at 10:39 AM ^
Me too. The Post has fired a higher % of their staff than ESPN has.
And it shows.
