Michigan State Depth Chart Released

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

I wouldn't normally post a non-opponent's week 1 depth chart, but this one seems worthy of a thread.

Michigan State's depth chart really shows how much suspensions and expulsions have devastated their program. I hardly recognize any names on there. The only guys I know are talented are Brian Allen and LJ Scott and maybe a couple other running backs.

Yikes.

I think Western will have a good shot at beating them when they play in a couple of weeks.  Western has both sides of their line returning and some stud runnning backs.  I could see them going in there and beating Sparty.

Better to see Jarvion Franklin's shoeprints on their asses when he goes for 200 rushing & 3 TDs. But according to the Media, analysts and sparty faithful MSU will be "greatly improved". Based on what I'm not sure. They just keep saying coaching and new talent. Pffffft, whatever. Broncos 33- State 27

Realize this is a long shot.  Looking for a group of 6-8 tickets for the MSU game this year.  Plan to propose to my girlfriend (a Michigan grad!) at the game and some family will be there to surprise her.  Any chance any one could help a guy out?

That would be catastrophic and I don't think dantonio would survive that. Two 3-9 seasons in a row would get him canned almost for sure. That said, I don't see it. They would have to be a wholeNew level of suck to reach down to 3-9. That would likely mean wins against only BGSU, WMU, and Rutgers. They should be able to squeak one out against at least one or two other teams, like Maryland or ND, just out of sheer luck.

Roster is really rough. Only positive I'd take away for them is that the majority of the team returns next season, but, still won't be very talented.

version of Hardknocks fall camp with the Michigan State Spartans this year in favor of other programming. Can't imagine why either the network or school wouldn't have wanted to repeat the opportunity this season.

Position grades:

QB: B?  Lots of questions but at least they have some experience coming back.

RB: A.  Scott will play in the NFL, and Holmes and London are above-average B1G backups.

FB: No idea.

WR: D.  No experience, and Layne moved to DB.

TE: B.  Sokol is a solid B1G TE.

OL: D+.  Would be a straight D if it weren't for Brian Allen.  Chewins appears to struggle maintaining weight worse than Pat Massey.

Overall, some good pieces, but football is a game where a huge weak spot hurts everything else.  A bad OL will make life tough on the RBs and the QB, especially without established WRs.  Wouldn't be shocked to see Sokol lead the team in receptions.

DE: D.  Cooper needs to step up and take a starting spot.  Willekes and Alexander will not bring much of any pass rush.

DT: B+.  Other than RB, this is probably the strongest spot on the team.  Both are solid B1G starters, and Owens and Jones are solid space-eating backups.

LB: B.  Good experience but no real stars.  Could look good if the DTs hold up.

S: D.  Struggled last year, and these guys don't project to be much better.

CB: D.  Same as safety.

Overall, a team that should struggle against teams that can throw, as consistent organic pass rush should be tough and the secondary will struggle.  Should be ok against teams who want to run up the gut.

and their DE's are going to get eaten alive.

Wonder how Tariq Thompson is feeling about his choice right about now. I never thought he was a great loss anyway (enjoy purgatory, son!).

Hoping for a Rutgerous ass kicking. I'll stay for every point and rewatch game at home with several beers and savor all the close-ups of Groucho Mark's reaction to the carnage.
