MSU Basketball Strength Coach Causes Fatal Accident

Submitted by Gucci Mane on

MSU basketball strength and conditioning coach, Todd Moyer, was allegedly texting and driving, causing him to strike a vehicle from behind and kill a mother and daughter.

The victim was my ex girlfriend's auntie. She was a kind person and loved her daughter more than anything.

I get that you are not a fan of Michigan State, but if you would, keep the snark confined to threads where it is appropriate. When we're talking about things such as this, it is not appropriate. Just a reminder from the friendly neighborhood moderator.

And realized how stupid it was, but my obsessive nature couldn't allow me to not check the text. I wouldn't actually respond as keeping my eyes off the road for that long made me nervous, but still a horrible habit.

I killed the habit after getting a dose of my own medicine - nearly run off the road into a ditch by a lady texting and driving - I had to speed up and swerve in to the shoulder to avoid her as she had drifted half way in to my lane.  Now I turn off my phone when I drive as I know my OCD would cause me to constantly check the phone if anything was coming in.

Time for each of us to look in the mirror and unequivably state we will not use our phones while driving.  Hope it becomes the law of the land. Tragic, senseless.

Sadly a lot of us will never learn until it happens to us, and after that its already too late. We always think that we're being careful and everyone else before us wasn't. We always think that we know how to handle it.

Sadly until either texting while driving is made illegal, or there is technology invented to shut texting down while the car is in motion, this is going to keep happening. And I don't see it getting any better anytime soon. People have a overbearing want, even a need, to constantly be connected to the rest of the world.

Thisthisthisthis. I can't wait until automatic driving evolves to a point of safety where we realize it's dangerously stupid to let people continue to manual drive. If I had to guess, it's about 10-15 years out until it'll be only automatic driving allowed on expressways in CA, OR, WA, NY and several other states. It'll go federal another 5-10 years after that.

It's the single most dangerous elective thing we do and we don't even think about the dangers behind it until they explode in our faces.

Still don't understand why a phone disabler isn't a thing yet. I don't care how important you think you are or what kind of job you have. Eyes on the road.

There's probably some kind of rudimentary app out there, but you're right. I'm amazed one of the phone companies or some kind of IT whiz hasn't developed technology that automatically shuts down a driver's texting capabilities when the car is in motion.

You can't tell me that millions of parents wouldn't purchase it and put it right into their kid's phones.

They cause fatal accidents, stupid accidents, and congestion on the road. They fucking suck. They are worse than drunk drivers.

Studies have shown that texting while driving takes a driver's eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. That's long enough to drive the length of a football field if you are going 55 MPH. It's the absolute worst habit people have while driving.

My sympathies for your loss. May her memory be eternal.

I look forward to the day when fully autonomous vehicles are available, and I am glad my current vehicle has a forward collision assist feature.

To keep my phone away when driving. It seems like more and more drivers on glued to their phones while they are on the road.
