Fulmer is definitely a "killer"
For people, but the issues are so far deeper than him. This team is set up to play baseball in the 1980s, but the game has passed the organization by, at least by a decade.
Tigers go station to station, they really have no threats on the base paths. Starting pitching is OK, relief is crap. The stars are declining rapidly, the young guys really haven't shown a ton of promise, and the farm system is one of the worst in baseball.
It is obvious now, more than ever, that there are no untouchables on this team sans Fulmer. You can find a team to take on Verlander that is one pitching star away. There's value to be had, but the team cannot half-ass a rebuild. Once the deadline is close, find value for whatever you can.
Tigers fired Finger Boy - that should fix everything...
Tyler Collins. Captain Middle Finger.
Last year after he booted a ball in CF, the Tiger fans voiced their displeasure. He rewarded them by.....uh.....showing them just who he thought was #1.
He was Designated For Assignment today. He has to clear waivers, and then he can be traded, released, or sent to the minors.
7 games behind in the loss column. After this coming Friday night's game against the Sox, the Tigers will have played exactly 1/3 of their schedule (assuming no rain-outs this coming week).
This is a 75-80 win team, probably closer to 75 after we sell at the end of July.
I was hesistant to say it too early, but I think we're far along into the season now to say that this team isn't going anywhere. Again.
You cant tell me that coaching has nothing to do with this team. I am not talking about in game decisions, but actual coaching of players. What was Ausmus coaching experience before this stint? What 1 player has gotten better? Everyone has regressed. They should have cleaned house after last season.
Have minimal impact on the course of a season.
I don't think he's a good manager, but the best coach in the world MAYBE has this team a game or two within .500. The issues are so far beyond the manager.
this now also relates to Tiger Woods. 2-for-1 thread. Nice work.
Essentially, we've been in win-now mode since we acquired Cabrera. We've been paying for players to extend our window and keeping these guys around and now the bill is coming due.
It would help a lot if Zimmermann hadn't turned from a quality-200IP starter into a replacement-level dud as soon as he signed, but most of the rest was completely predicatable. Everyone knew that at some point, Cabrera would lose slices of value either by injury or slowing bat speed (check out Albert Pujols for a recent example), and VMart/Kinsler would do the same; that the lack of replacements in the farm system would prevent us from reloading; and that we had no margin for error.
This is the flip side of the devil's bargain we made from 2008-2016.
