New 2018 QB Offer: Tyler Shough
I'll leave it to the professionals to leave a scouting report, but according to 247Sports QB Tyler Shough out of Chandler, AZ picked up a Michigan offer tonight. Which was immediately followed by a Steve Witfong always-right crystal ball.
He's rated as the composite #16 pro-style QB, but his best offers are Harvard, South Carolina and Indiana. Interesting to see the QB board expand prior to the 2 spring game QB visitors, I'd assume Shough is Plan C.
For a plan C the kid looks like he can make all of the throws. Seems like a legit talent. I'm surprised he doesn't have a deeper offer list with decent football programs.
Expanded QB recruiting probably means one of their top targets is trending away or they can't get a feeling one way or the other.
I thought a lot of his completions should be credited to his wide receiver! Dude created seperation and caght the ball with his hands away from his body.
This could be a save face offer more than the staff knowing something about DTR.
Offer the kid right before the spring game so that it looks like he was a priority before learning DTR's decision.
Saving face for what? This is recruiting and you cover your bases. This isn't about saving face but more about strategy to make sure you are in on a kid that the coaches like considering that the coaches know they might whiff on their top QB choices.
I think you missed the point I was making.
Saving face in the recruitment of Shough if he becomes a #1 target. A lot of people in this thread are jumping to the conclusion that this offer means DTR has in some way led the staff to believe he is going to UCLA.
I am saying the staff could be making this offer now so that there is not a direct correlation with DTR. Doing this prevents a player from feeling slighted and other schools the oppotunity to point out to a kid he was a clear second choice when he was their first.
I'm not even saying it would matter to Shough if he was the second choice I am just giving a reason as to why this does not have to mean DTR to UCLA.
This has nothing to do with DTR leaning away from Michigan. This is covering all bases and offering a good QB should something happen down the line. DTR is visiting for spring game, will make a decision shortly after that. Shough isnt visiting till this summer so they will know the result of DTR battle with UCLA before moving too far forward with Shough.
Maybe the coaches want to take 2 QBs in the class of 2018 despite a smaller class?
IIRC, Harbaugh/Hamilton told DTR they would hold a spot for him if another QB commits before him.
DTR is the dual threat while Tyler Shough (pronounced Shuck) is the pocket passer with some mobility.
Doesn't hurt that DTR is versatile and can play WR if he wants to get on the field early in his college career.
