OT: Patrick Ewing New Head Coach at Georgetown
i figured since the Amaker thread was here earlier, a follow up would be appropriate.

This matters more for recruiting than anything else. If he can recruit the DC area well, that's enough to make Gtown a perennial Sweet 16 team, and I believe most DC-area players will have Patrick Ewing in their homes if he reaches out.
To PE. He is going to need it.
Bring back the Ewing!
Just playing devil's advocate but is Patrick Ewing still a household name? Recruits going into 2017-2018 season were only maybe 1 year old when he retired. Now his career as a player in college and NBA speak for themselves.
The parents will definitely be familiar with Ewing. The recruits...maybe.
They may not know him, but their parents probably do.

As someone that rooted against the Knicks during my formative years, my fondest memory of Sir Patrick was his Gold Club Testimony. I think he's the guy to really prepare these kids for life in the NBA (/s).
I imagine him as a guy that the game has passed by strategically. Maybe I'm wrong but I see him recruiting post players that are solid and no guards and getting canned in a few yrs.
I don't wish that on anyone but this seems like a terrible hire.
for 15 years and he has seen the evolution of the game and NBA has been trending towards spacing and shooting for the last few years. I'm sure he'll be fine. He has been working hard trying to get a head coaching job and he has more than made his due.
I've lived in DC for 6 years now and have been wanting a reason to get interested in G'town hoops. And there's been none. but, I'm from NY and I loved Patrick as a player and now I'm kinda psyched about it.

I remember when Cazzie Russell was interested in the Michigan job and didn't appear to get a serious look. Cazzie on paper was far more qualified, having been a head coach at the college (albeit lower) level.
Ewing has never recuited, I do not assume he will automatically be good at it because of his prior name and is he willing to put the long hours on the road into it and suck up to 15-18 year olds?
The 15 years as an NBA assistant is useful experience but it is a world'sdifference from NCAA basketball. How much coaching do NBA asistants do compared to NCAA assistants? NBA players barely listen to the head coach, let alone an asistant.
As someone who spent several years living in DC and following Georgetown, I'm very disappointed in this hire, as are many alums there from my unscientific poll. Hope I'm wrong,
I initially went to IU out of high school, and I beat Patrick Ewing Jr. in my bowling class. True story.
