Comparing UM and MSU Recruiting Classes

Submitted by M Ascending on

Looking at 247sports composite ratings for M and MSU 2017 commits to date, I cannot recall ever seeing such a disparity in class quality between these two schools.  For example,

MSU's highest ranked recruit, OG Kevin Jarvis, has a composite ranking of.9039.  Michigan currently has 11 COMMITS with a higher composite ranking than MSU's top commit.

Michigan also has 19 COMMITS with a higher composite than all but MSU's top two recruits.

Finally, our recruiting AVERAGE of 91.02 is substantially higher than the ranking for MSU's top recruit.  That seems incredible.

Questions:  (1) Does anyone remember any year with a higher disparity between the recruiting classes, in either direction?

                    (2)  Does anyone have any information that would suggest that MSU might be able to narrow the gap at all between now and signing day with some quality late recruits?

I think the entirety of the '90's went just like this, so not too long ago. It just feels like eons, because of M's recent walk in the wilderness.

about Dantollio/MSU vs OSU

Since losing his first game to OSU in 2007 (then being off schedule), MSU has been winning odd-numbered years & losing even numbered years.

MSU does look to be in pretty good shape with Oliver Martin and Cordarrian Richardson.  But yeah - not shaping up to be like last year's class.

Let's focus on comparing recruiting classes of teams that are legitimately in play for the NC, now or in the near future.  Sparty no longer makes the grade in either case.

Considering context, this class is shaping up to be a disaster for MSU.  The in-state talent was very high and so far they have pretty much gotten shut out, other than the guy whose dad played at MSU.  They aren't doing much in Ohio either, and it's not because UM is hogging all of OSU's leftovers.  Despite their W-L record, this should have been a very strong class for them, and it won't be ranked. Probably not even close.

...they do a good job of developing anonymous 3 star recruits, especialy on the OL and DL, so expect a few guys to overperform their rankings.

Also, given how few of their players leave early for the NFL, they won't really feel the burn of it until 2019.

This has probably been said but to me it seems like MSU has taken advantage of the Rich Rid years by going after local recruits while Rich went after players that fit his system and his 3-3-5 ect. This was corrected by Hoke even if he didn't develop them as he should have but 4-5 years of this has kept the competition close the past few years but the talent disparity will now fall back in Mich favor and I think it will stay that way for a long time. MSU had there few years.
