Today is Don Brown Day

Submitted by Blueinsconsin on

December 20th, 2015, Don Brown accepted the job to become Michigan football's Defensive Coordinator after DJ Durkin left to lead the Maryland Terps.  A quick look at the stats reminds us that yes, he did make this defense extremely good in just one season.  What's your favorite Don Brown moment of the 2016 season?  Mine would be when he was asked during the offseason what he would change and he responded, "If I tell you, I have to take you out".

My favorite moment?

Even though we lost, it was Brown finding a way for a Michigan defense to (finally) contain an OSU offense. Even at times dominate them. Brown largely shut Barrett, Weber and Samuel down all day. And this was one year removed from losing 42-13.

Yes, we lost, but it showed we definitely have the right guy. The defense nearly won that game all by itself.

Coach Brown had a great year, and I'm excited for the future. I had the pleasure of watching him run some drills at one of this year's satellite camps, and I was ready to jump in and take a few reps. He has powerful passion and enthusiasm for the game.

I'm close with someone who played for Coach Brown a long time ago; when I heard about the hire, I texted my friend for a scouting report. He sent back things such as "a good man" and "good natured but firm," and mentioned that Brown's demeanor couldn't be better. Then he started talking about the crazy defenses they ran and that the defense back then had "no talent and still stopped people."

Michigan's defense is in good hands. Thanks, Coach Brown!

this year.

But I look forward to December 20, 2017, and all of us remarking how dominating the 2017 defense under Brown was despite losing 300 starters in 2016.  Then we will know without a doubt how amazing he is...
