OT: Graham Couch: MSU Basketball 2016 Going the Way of MSU Football 2016?

Submitted by jimmyshi03 on

Alex Carder's publicity agent writes that he's seeing parralels between the Spartan cagers, who lost to Northeastern Sunday, and the 3-9 football team. Specifically:

"MSU’s basketball team is facing a similar dynamic to what its football team endured this year: Its most gifted players are its younger players; many of its veterans are better followers than leaders; it’s shaky in the trenches; and its 2013 recruiting class isn’t contributing."

Graham Couch is a bundle of wangs in a trenchcoat. He sniffs his own farts. He's a mediocre writer who wouldn't know objectivity if it slept with his wife.

I know we all love our share of Sparty schadenfreude around here, but Graham Couch's opinion holds about as much weight as the shit I took last night. Don't bother with his drivel.

9 or even 10 wins wont get them in the tourney.  They have no signature wins to speak of yet.  They may need to win a few B1G tourney games like we did last year to get in.

We hear about their tough schedule every year - especially when they play UNC/Duke.  And the announcers talk about Izzo as if he is on Roy and K's level. But at some point, dont you have to beat your marquee opponents? IIRC, Izzo is 2-17 against Roy/K (a few of those against Kansas). Yes, Final 4's, etc. But the deification should stop at some point.

He treats his players like shit, calls them out by name, and none of them ever get any better. He has had a ton of talented players during his tenure but none of the elite recruits ever take it to the next level on his watch. A number of other, less well regarded, coaches could have done a lot more with the teams he's had.

They have some young talent on the DL.  And Lewerke didn't look entirely hopeless at QB.

Big issues on the OL though ... not sure who they have there that would give them hope.  Then again, I've thought that in the past but somehow the Spartan "conditioning program" works its magic.

Difference between basketball and football is that MSU currently has a couple elite players on their roster (Bridges and Langford - I know he's started out slow, but he's gonna be really good if he stays in school) and one coming in next year (Jackson). Plus Ward and Winston. They'll be good next year IMO. This year is a major rebuilding year and if I were Izzo, I'd be rolling with the young guys. When Schilling and Carter went down, season was in jeopardy.
