Wolverines vs Gators 2017

Submitted by Bo4President on

First, Happy Holidays to my fellow Wolverines.  I am posting this way ahead of schedule I know but I am already plotting out my games I will be attending in 2017.

I am planning on flying down for the Michigan vs Florida game at Jerry's World. Here are my questions:

1. Any recommendations on hotels in the Dallas area?

2. Any recommendations on nightlife or must do while in Dallas?  Any Michigan fanbase or sports bars that you recommend?

I am going on this trip with some ole college buddies so should be a fun trip.  I have never been to Dallas so looking to plan ahead and maximize the experience.

Anyone have this trip already booked?  Thanks again!

I think Dallas might be the U.S. capital of architectural eyesores. There truly aren't many things more dangerous than a Texan with $. Brutal weather in the summer, too.

Still, the DFW area is huge and it's a fun place. I'd suggest "Yelping" for Mexican food, too.

I used to live in Fort Worth and the downtown area is really nice. Some good restaurants and bars as well (my favorite is the Flying Saucer). Billy Bob's is a historic cowboy restaurant/bar and Joe T Garcia's is a great mexican restaurant (they only serve enchiladas and fajitas). The Renaissance Worthington is a great hotel right in the heart of downtown Fort Worth.

My wife is a Florida grad so we are debating whether to make the trip from our current home in Cincinnati.

I will third the idea of staying in Ft. Worth. Downtown area is a blast and is much more fun than anywhere in Arlington. Dallas has some cool spots for night life too but I feel like Ft. Worth is a bit more laid back, and I just like it better overall. Unfortunately the Rangers also have a home game that day as well, so traffic and parking could be a bitch in that area. Also, it's gonna be mid 90s and humid, so be prepared for that.

Booked my hotel already too.  Same place we stayed for the game a few years ago, Market Center neighborhood.  I remember one bar being a huge Michigan draw the night before the game but can't remember the name...

I've been to Dallas three times. There is so much fun to be had in that town. I would recommend checking out Trip Advisor for the best advice. Tons of beautiful parks and city shapes to check out. I would even say it is worth taking half a day to drive around and see the city. I stayed at the Homewood Suites on the north side once. They have great free dinners with free beer (no joke). Another time I stayed at the Hyatt Place, and thought that was also very good. Decent bar in the lobby, and a few seconds from the highway to downtown.

Used to live there for a while. Few tips

1. Jerryworld itself is in Arlington, so you'll need to plan transport back and forth. I would pay to uber since parking there is brutal and in case you want to drink.

2. Uptown has a lot of cool bars for young people. A lot of it is flashy/clubby and if you like that kind of scene and the college bar scene, you will like it. If not, the Deep Ellum area has a lot of laid back bars with some cool live music.

3. Nick and Sam's is my favorite restaturant there.

4. As far as hotels, they are fairly pricey down town. But if you are willing to pay the price, stay in Uptown. It's pretty central as far as getting to stuff you might want to do.

Lived there for 5 years....favorite places are the West End in Dallas and Stockyards in Fort Worth (very underrated). Can stay near Jerryworld in Arlington and it is close to Ft. Worth.

The area is geographically large so expect to drive quite a bit.

Went to the Alabama game and the security lines were very, very long and  took forever.  Many missed kick-off. It was 98 degrees and pretty miserable waiting to get in. And to top it off, the game was pretty miserable too.  This time, the game will be much, much better I am sure.

I stayed at the Hilton Anatole a few years back for the Red River Shootout. That place was crazy for Friday and Saturday, not sure if it is always like that or just because of the game. There were a few bars and restaurants in there that were a lot of fun. It is a little ways from Jerry world I believe. That's all I got on Dallas, the rest was a blur, we ate at some good spots downtown, don't remember the names though....

I stayed pretty close to Jerrys World in a reasonable Hilton Garden which was located about 2 miles away across the freeway.  There is another hotel across the parking lot.  That was 3 years ago, so there may be more options in the area.

Id book it ASAP if I were you.
