The State Of Our Open Threads: After Indiana
The tenor of this game in terms of how we felt about it can be summed up in the following factoid - there was all of one "awesome" used in the game thread last night, and it was used in a manner which was clearly sarcastic. We're normally rather sparse with effusive praise, but when one of the words tracked to indicate that is used sarcastically, you get a great feel for the rest of the analysis.
There was a season-high usage of "fire" too, come to think of it, but much of it not so much directed at coaches. It was used mostly in complaints about Michigan's perceived lack of intensity or urgency in a game they should theoretically win handily (and did win, but maybe not handily). There was a tie for the season-high usage of "suck" too - most of that was directed at O'Korn and strangely towards the one bright spot on offense - De'Veon Smith.
Never let it be said that didn't give a good amount of fucks, of course - there were 263 fucks given in this game, which is actually the third highest total of the season. We also gave exactl 100 shits, which is the fourth highest total for the season. It seems like any way you slice our reaction to this game, it was not one which would make you think we were waiting enthusiastically for The Game.
The advanced metrics tell the story too:
FART Rate - 1.315, which is the fourth highest rate on the season
SHART Rate - 0.500, which is the fourth highest rate on the season
SQUIRT Number - 2.630, which is actually the sixth highest on the season
FAP Rate - 1.992, which was the sixth highest on the season
So, overall reaction to this game is - in season terms - kind of mild. It definitely was not the visceral reaction to the frustration of the Iowa game, but certainly not the comfortable reaction to Rutgers. This game sat sort of in that middle tier of games which can be best described as, "I think we're just happy that we won".
As for the thread size and efficiency, there were 739 tracked instances across 1,888 posts, which turns into an overall efficiency of 2.55 - that is consistent with a stressful win in the new Harbaugh-era version of the efficiency metric. Far and away, the two highlights when it comes to sheer volume and size this year are MSU and Iowa, but we have The Game coming up. One of the things that has held true in this analysis as in The Game, is that unexpected things happen and we see things which make us think "Where the hell was that all year?".
I fully expect some data to be skewed and some records to be broken, especially because this game matters....like, a lot this time.

There was this dude behind me, and perhaps he's on here, but he had the foulest mouth I have ever heard. "F O'korn! F this play calling! we're not going to f'in win this f'in game!" It was literally every other word. and not quiet. I had my kids with me, which actually I don't care about, because I use it as a teaching moment and you can't avoid real world. But all of the adults around us were mortified.
Honestly, it's no wonder the world is so divisive and full of hate. Who speaks like that constantly? It's trashy. Go sit in your basement, naked, with your 40 and yell your heart out. His mother would be ashamed. Yes, it's you, mr. section 24, row 8, seat 16. I'm talking to you. Clean it up. It's super unattractive as well. Pretty sure he was single. (maybe married and miserable, who knows.)
Rant over.
wait, Rant f'in over!

That might be a clue.
Then again it might not be.

I thought I was being transparent with the username and photo. But it's the internet. It's a strange place. (I am a woman, btw)

I understand people swearing at football games. I'm fine with swearing after a bad play or losing. And honestly, don't bring your kids if their ears can't handle it. But the guy by us WOULD NOT STOP. He uses the f word at least twice a sentence. About everything. Not just the game. It's actually weird. "Man this f'in snow is coming down. Good f'in thing we won this f'in game despite the f'in playcalling from f'in Fisch."

He had his kids with him, and his language was fine. But he got really, over the top furious about everything that went wrong. Punching seats, pounding on his own head, etc.. After Indiana scored, a couple Hoosier fans a few seats away high fived. Nothing obnoxious, as Hoosier fans are usually peaceful folk. He stood up and screamed at them to go sit in the Indiana section, we don't need you here. This went on for a few seconds. They looked bewildered and sad, and he shot angry glares at them for the rest of the game. I reserve my pure rage for watching alone at home.

Yeah, we had a guy behind us screaming injury and death upon every Indiana player to touch the ball. I heard yells of everything from "Break his leg!!!" to "Take his head off!!!!" He wanted paralysis, he wanted stretchers, he wanted death. It was ridiculous.
You can tell by the way he yelled it out that he really wanted it to happen. He was furious. My 6yr old kid looked at me with a "Dad, what's wrong with this guy" look on his face and I just shrugged my shoulders, shook my head and told him some people are ignorant and how he's a good example of how NOT to be when you grow up.
I never want to see a kid get hurt, let alone a career ending or life altering injury. To watch and wish for it to happen to someone is crazy to me.

Oddly enough our HC, who apparently knows a thing or two about QB play, watched both practice and chose the one who played better. Ain't that something?

I know what you are saying, I cannot stand fans that are so negative. Keep supporting your team throughout the game. Fans have to remember that the stadium is a public setting and should have some self control.

We really worked "POOP" hard on the thread as a third-party candidate.
I'm disappointed it didn't do better.

am I the only one who thinks that even if we lose to OSU (just hear me out) IF that happens and lets say Penn ST or Wisc wins the BIG AND Colorado wins the PAC12 ( took a big step yesterday beating WSU) Michigan at 10-2 would have wins over the Pac 12 Champ AND the BIG champ with 3 wins over top 8 teams..How can they Not be the #4 team...Especially if say Clemson loses the ACC game or at S Carolina ?
November 20th, 2016 at 9:50 AM ^
Yup. Only one.

everyone just assumes they fall out? but below who? with 3 wins over top 8 including the best conf in the country this year Our resume stacks up against any

Colorado at 2 loss team has a better resume than Michigan? a team Michigan BEAT? this of course assumes Coloradois the champ... perhaps if its a 12-1 Wahington...but then again stack up Wash resume vs ours? Michigan wins that
