USA Today give Mgoblog a credit

MGoBlog has a higher readership than USA Today sports section.

If you look at the "by" line, you will see that the USA Today article is written by Mark Snyder of the Freep.

Bernie Smilovitz credited MGoBlog with the story as well.

That's when you blame instead of credit MGoBlog.

Channel 7 in Detroit ran with the story and credited MGoBlog as well, so all of us here are now officially famous by association for another news cycle, so we've got that going for us, which is nice.
It was actually kind of amusing to see the blog get credited on TV for yet another time in my tenure here now.

Oddly, the first place I heard it was from a buddy who said Greg Henson was reporting that Speight was out for the season. This was at noon Eastern time this morning. What a weird day.

Well, it's not inaccurate--Ace is a credentialled reporter. For their purposes it differentiates Mgoblog from a random anonymous message board.

Welp, time for me to leave MGoBlog then. It's now part of the MSM establishment. Next thing you know we'll see Brian in a chair getting TV makeup applied for his appearance on "GameDay."

Naive question here: Is MGoBlog reporting something Harbaugh does not want reported, to the detriment of the team, or is it common knowledge and MGoBlog just reported it first?

The funny thing to me is: who cares who broke the story? Journalists need to focus much more on quality and intrigue than timing. Obvious but not obvious.
November 15th, 2016 at 10:50 AM ^
You're correct that quality needs to be more important than timing, but it's not really just timing. If one journalist does the work/reporting to get the information, and the other places are basically just citing the first one (or doing quick work to confirm the first one which is much easier once it's out), then it's not just a matter of timing. Without the first journalist and their work, the story doesn't necessarily come out, and even if it does, the heavy lifting was done by the first journalist. It seems totally fair and somewhat important that the first journalist or news source should get credit from subsequent publications.
If nothing else, remember that the reverse has been done to MGoBlog. Something is reported here, then picked up by a newspaper without citation, as if the newspaper came up with it on their own. That seems actively unfair towards MGoBlog and dishonest of the newspaper--the alternative approach is what you're seeing here.

Either mgoblog was wrong so I'm not sure why we are celebrating or Jim Harbaugh is being dishonest. I know he'll do anything to win, but Jim Harbaugh will not look you in the eye and lie to you. Not to mention you have Wilton Speight retweeting Harbaugh's comments about him not being hurt. Broken clavicle gets you a sling and no one has ever seen Speight in a sling. Continuing to believe that he has a broken clavicle is a bit too much conspiracy theory for me at this point.

Is this how fame feels?
November 15th, 2016 at 5:49 PM ^
Speight is standing comfortably, LEFT shoulder is facing the camera and there seems to be nothing bothering him. No deformity at the AC joint to indicate a complete disruption of the ligament. A clavicular fracture is extremely painful, certainly not the case here. Likewise, somewhat severe AC tear would also make even walking to the interview uncomfortable and apparent (I've seen hundreds). So, probably a milder injury that may be ready in 2 weeks.
We are patting ourselves on the back for being nationally recognized, but it looks as if we screwed up on what we are being credited for.
