Michigan #3 in the AP Poll, still #4 in Coaches

Submitted by pfholland on
Michigan is up to #3 in the AP poll, and is the only team besides Alabama with a first place vote. Wisconsin only fell to #10, so the Big Ten still has four top ten teams.

In the Coaches poll we're still #4, only 19 points behind Clemson. Wisconsin stayed at #10 despite losing to OSU.

The coach's poll is dumb, and one reason is that coaches (or whoever actually casts the vote) give the benefit of the doubt to teams who have been very strong the previous season. Since Clemson is 20-1 going back to the beginning of last season—with the only blemish a close loss to Alabama in the NC game last January—and since they still have a Heisman front-runner at QB, coaches are going to figure that Clemson is still a tremendous team. Sure, it's stupid to us, but it's been that way forever, going back to the polls-n-bowls era.

If I had to guess, it's because it is still sort of amusing for some to discuss the manner in which grad assistants - or maybe sports information directors or whoever is charged with this at some school  - to rank Division I teams from purple to tomato. If those in charge of filling it out actually were watching games, I wonder......well, no, I don't really.

It's crazy that Clemson could be ahead of us in any poll.  They got beat by NC State all game and they really should've lost in reg time.  NC State is probably a pretty good team but the line was -19 in favor of Clemson.  I was dumb enough to put money on Clemson thinking that they might actually be a CFP contender.  They continue to prove me wrong on a weekly basis.

Man, they just really, really want to rank every team in the SEC. It's not possible, but they still do the best they can to squeeze as many of them in to that last 25..

Michigan should be at #2. osu struggled mightily and needed a holding call out of nowhere to win. Very questionable calls and non calls in that one. osu blatant holding at point of attack not being called all game. Michigan should win out. No excuse not to as wolverines have the most talent top to bottom. Love the way michigan and wisconsin play football. osu better pray ferret does'nt get dinged.
