Rich Eisen Appreciation Thread

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

The NFL Network's Rich Eisen will be honored tomorrow as Michigan's honorary captain at the UCF game. I was just listening to his radio show (he's doing it from Ann Arbor today), and he's positively giddy about it, as you'd expect.

I'm a huge Eisen fan, so I wanted to throw an Appreciation Thread out there to see if anyone else hops on. He got his start at the Michigan Daily (and as a campus comedian), and quickly moved through the ranks at ESPN and then the NFL Network.

I love that we have such a passionate alum in such a high-profile media position, and that can't hurt in any way. He's smart, he's funny and he loves our team as much as we do. I'm glad he's a Michigan Man, and I'm glad we're honoring him.

TBH I didn't even really know much about Eisen until the coaching search and the clips of him begging Jim to "come home." My first thought was, why the heck isn't this guy a cult hero on mgoblog? He's practically a covert operative in enemy territory.

That commerical was always one of my favorites among the many such commercials that they did in that era.

Saw the tweet of Rich Eisen standing next to the Bo statue as I took a break from mowing a little while ago. He looked as happy as ever.

They should have him run the 40 in warm ups tomorrow. Grapentine can come on the pa and say "come on Rich beat that time" as they put a stopwatch on the scoreboards.

Rich Eisen was my favorite ESPN anchor growing up, and that was before I knew he was a Michigan alum. He is one of the very best in the business, and you can just see the enthusiasm and enjoyment for his job. The fact that he is a Michigan Man just makes it better.

Slammed Rich Rod multiple times. Completely mum on Brady Hoke criticisim from wire to wire. Rich Eisen is a full-on believer in the "Michigan Man" code and I'm shocked that more people don't remember that.

Uhh yeah. Aggressively railroading someone from outside the family for the Freep bullshit and then not saying a peep about someone from the old guard after the Morris incident because you were part of the mafia that supported bringing him in is a problem. Eisen was even tweeting at Carr players (Jay Feely, Steve Breaston, maybe others) during a RR loss to bring them in on his bash fest. He's a piece of shit. Are you implying all that isn't a problem?

The Rich Eisen show really isn't in my rotation of radio shows. Then whenever I do listen to it, I really enjoy it and realize I've been missing out. Rich Eisen >>>>> Jim Rome

I was coaching my kids soccer team and wearing my Michigan shirt.  I was bummed because it was early Saturday morning and I was missing out on the UM - BYU game.  A guy walks up in ball cap, shakes my hand  and says: 'Hi, I'm Rich.  I'd rather be home watching us take on BYU, but I'm here.  I saw your shirt and came to talk to you. I figured you must be the smartest guy here..'  It was Rich Eisen.  He was coaching his kids soccer team and came over for a pregame chat.  Great guy!

I've seen him in Los Angeles a few times, and he is always out doing something with his family.  I've got nothing but respect for the guy.

Rich wrote a really great article for ESPN back in 1997 after Michigan won the NC.  I did not realize that he was an alumn until I read it.  As I remember it, he recalled many frustrating moments and near-misses in his life as a Michigan fan and student.

He really appreciated the 97 championship and showed that he was a huge fan and supporter of the program even back then. I'd like to read that article again.  Perhaps its available somewhere.

Funny thing I just remembered.  Does anyone else recall about 5 years ago, when a female sports anchor (I dont remember which one, but it was a very good looking hot reporter/anchor type) became obsessed with Rich, even though he was happily married? This nutty chick sent him naked photos etc and it was a big stalking deal.
