OT - Ryan Lochte robbery case gets murkier

Submitted by jmblue on

The Brazilian police has forbidden Lochte and the others from leaving Brazil while the evidence is being gathered, but he's apparently already returned to the United States.

The Rio police are casting doubt over Lochte's version of events, saying it doesn't square with testimony from others - although given their reputation for corruption, who really knows?

Apparently Lochte has met with the FBI to discuss the situation.

True Story:

When I was 20 years old I had a summer job working with children with disabilities and worked with 3 boys with cerebral palsy. One weekend we took them away to a camp and while there one worker had to sleep in a tent with them during the night while the other could enjoy the comforts of their car.

I was the lucky one that got to sleep in his car and some time through the night I woke up and had to take a leak. In a stuper I got up, opened the door and closed it behind me, then relieved myself. When I finished I turned to get back in the car and go to sleep. I pulled on the door handle and it was locked.

There I was standing outside in the middle of the night at a camp for children with special needs with nothing on but my underwear and nowhere to go. I saw that a campsite close by had a camp fire going so i went over there to ask if I could borrow one of their cars and drive the 1/2 home to get my spare set of keys and return. No one would oblige...

Seems like nothing more than a funny story to tell right? Why would anyone lie about that and just not tell the truth? Well in the month leading up to that I had locked my keys in my car 3 other times and people were starting to believe that I was the one with the disability. I was emabarrased and tired so I went to the car and smashed the window and crawled in to go to sleep.

When I arrived the next day to pick up my father minus one window he asked what the heck happened. Rather than admit I had locked my keys in the car AGAIN, I told him i had been sleeping in the car and all of a sudden I was woken up by a rock breaking through the window. Must have been some crazy kids at the camp ground or something.

Very long story short...sometimes the reason for people making something up doesn't seem reasonable to others but makes perfect sense to the individual. People do dumb things sometimes.

I guess I just can't wrap my head around why he would call anyone at all if he got robbed at a brothel. I mean, when you do dumb shit, dumb shit happens to you- why not just take your losses and accept the cost rather than fabricating a story at all. The potential story of him visiting a brothel is significantly worse than whatever cash he may have lost so I'm just struggling to come to terms with making up the robbery story at all if he got robbed at a brothel. Just cancel your cards and move on but maybe it's just Ryan being Ryan.

There is a law prohibiting Americans from soliciting sex overseas... but only if the service provider is a minor.

It was mostly enacted to crack down on people (Penn State fans I presume) from going to the Philippines and Thailand for less than altruistic reasons.

kinda like the egyptian government saying no terrorism was involved with that blown up jet...they'll do anything to save their only revenue maker: tourism

I'm going to wildly speculate that he wanted to bang an actual Brazilian woman. Didn't have the game or speak the language. Decided to go the easy route and got robbed by the prostitutes. Happens all of the time or so I've heard. Perhaps they didn't want their filthly little secret getting out so they made up the story. Maybe one of the guys has a wife or girlfriend I don't know.

There are better things for Brazilian authorities to be doing.  It's one of the most violent countries in the world.  Half of Liveleak, bestgore, etc. are pics and videos from Brazil.

My guess

It all makes sense under this context:

Ryan Lochte wants to be a reality-TV star.

He's said it himself and he even had a show apparently from before.

This is his "Kardashian sex-tape" or whatever is the scandal of the day event.

There are people who just want the spotlight, no matter what.

He's one of them.

Ryan Lochte is on dancing with the stars. If he doesn't get a good score, will he say he was robbed? Too soon?
