White pants for road games permanently: your thoughts?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I'm a big fan of the white pants on the road.

And Harbaugh said today that they're gonna be permanent, as opposed to a one year deal which it was supposed to be.

Harbaugh says the white pants on the road will be a permanent thing. He's a fan of that.

So this is a postmortem for the Maize pants on the road, if you will.

Aside from that small block of the mid-70s and last year, we have worn Maize pants on the road literally since Maize pants were first introduced to the uniform back in the 1930s.

I've gotten so used to the white pants that it almost feels weird when I see Maize pants on white jerseys from practice shirts. It also probably gives me a more favorable view since we went undefeated in B1G road games last year for the first time since 1997.

Not to mention winning a bowl game by 34 against an SEC division winner in their own state.

Are you happy about the white pants staying? Will you miss the Maize pants?

I love the white pants. It's a good, clean look. With that said, if we're going to get any Nike uniformz for a bowl game or something I'm sure it will be with the away uni and I'd imagine it will involve maize pants.

You know what I like? Winning. On the road. At home. Both, really.

Honestly both are fine. It's not like they are highlighter yellow and gunmetal (YET),

When I first saw them, immediatley liked them. No issues with the maize either. I think people are nitpicking at this issue. Thought they could let a player decide couple of days before the road game white n maize or all white.

I prefer maize as well. I suspect, as someone else pointed out earlier, that maize pants are back for at least a few games in the next few years.

I was very apprehensive about the white pants before last season when it was first announced. They grew on me pretty quickly (winning will do that). But now, I prefer them to the maize pants.

I like that its a distinctive (and hopefully in time iconic) look for both home and away.

I don't mind the white pants at all, but I think these are the best Michigan away unis.  I wish we would go back to these at some point (maybe without the piping).

I honestly prefer the maize pants. I also liked the away jersey more in the Hart and Henne era. We were still Nike and it had maize trim around the numbers and the white had a shine to it. I'm fine with the new stuff though just happy to be winning again.

I like the new look better.

Like many, I believe the home uniforms are second to none in college football. The colors look great together.

I never liked the maize pants, though. There's just not enough contrast with the white, especially when there's a blue helmet on top.

I've long been of the opinion that if just ONCE they put this out there on the field, the majority of us would want them to continue wearing blue pants, at least as an alternate. I'd prefer maize to white, but I'd prefer blue to either one.

I love the all whites. They are clean and crisp. When they first took the field at Rice-Eccles last September 3rd with Harbaugh leading them out in the all whites, it looked like a new team had taken the field. We turned to a new chapter. I thought to myself, that this is the start of a new era. Gone are the days of Rich Rod, gone are the days of Hoke. We finally have our man, Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is exactly what this program needed. We needed a jump start. A man who actually "gets it". A man that really knows what it's like to be a "Michigan Man". A man who was a disciple of Bo, who was counted on to lead his team. Harbaugh has lived this. He is here now to lead us back to a National Championship!

I apologize. I went off on a tanget. Was just thinking of the need for Michigan to be "Michigan" again and how the last two coaches weren't the right fit for the program. Harbaugh is. It's nothing about what we used to wear, I liked the maize pants as well. We are just in a new direction now.

Obviously whatever uniform Harbaugh wants us to wear is worth it to keep him happy, but I'm more of a fan of the yellow pants.  I would've loved if we wore white for some road games and yellow for other road games.  A little variety would've been nice now that we're kind of used to both styles.

They'll be back again one day. Harbaugh will eventually die and the next guy will bring back maize pants as a retro look, then the next guy will bring back white as a retro look, etc etc

When college football made the rule in the 1950's that the away team has to wear white, our away look became white jerseys on maize pants.

These pics from the 1965 Rose Bowl are the earliest color shots of them...

That was always our color look save for those 3 seasons in the 70's until last year.  I'm just so used to it that it's really weird to NOT see the maize pants.  I don't hate the white on white.  In fact, when I first saw the team on TV for last year's Utah game, I said, "Wow!  Those look sharp!"  The plus side is they don't look ugly like those Dave Brandon abominations.

My personal thoughts, however,  are that the white on white would be nice to use maybe one road game per season.  But what Tom Brady is sporting here should be our road jersey...

People will start to associate the white away jerseys with when Michigan became a power again, because it's true. Not even Jim Harbaugh can touch the home jerseys but he can damn sure make the away jerseys have white pants. I love them.

Very distinctive.  Think it gives a very crisp, clean look.  What I really like about the road uni's is the solid blue numbering.  I did not like the yellow "trim" around the blue numbers that M had on the jerseys for so many years.  Thought it made them look cheesy.

I'm with you on that.  I didn't like the extra yellow trim around the numbers either for the same reasaon.  As for today's all-whites, I'd even prefer there to be no maize and blue stripe down the pant legs or around the sleeves--just all white with solid blue numbers/player names, with only the helmet being maize and blue.  That said, to answer the OP's question, I prefer maize away pants, especially now since it's the right shade of deep, rich maize.
