Treon Harris transfers from UF; 7th QB transfer in 3 years

Submitted by gwkrlghl on

An interesting bit of news during the abyss that is late July college football news. Treon Harris offically left Florida. This means he is the 7th Florida QB to transfer since 2013 and:

Every #Gators QB to commit to UF during the Will Muschamp era has since transferred from the program. Pretty wild.

Impressive. The QB battle is now apparently between an Oregon State transfer and Purdue transfer Austin Appleby. I anxiously look forward to another thrilling 9-7 victory over Vanderbilt this fall.

What happened to Will Grier? Didn't he tear it up while he was their quarterback? I would have assumed he would want to come back after his injury

Edit: I just used google. Not injury, failed drug test and serving a 12 month suspension. Griers wanted guarantee that Will would start when he came back and McElwain wouldn't give it. Gotta side with McElwain on this one.

He was playing pretty well before he got suspended.

What's interesting is Treon Harris was thrown into the starting QB position just one week before the LSU game.  And he threw for nearly 300 yards in a 7 point loss in Baton Rouge.  He had solid games in blowout wins over Ole Miss and Georgia.  It wasn't until the last couple weeks of the season that he really started to struggle.

I think Florida has a good coaching staff in place, but at some point you gotta at least keep one of these QBs around to have some consistency on offense.  I know a lot of these guys left before Mcelwain showed up, but that QB position looks terrible.

Their QB will likely be Jack Del Rio's kid this fall. Felipe Franks was a big QB recruit who may do big things but likely won't be ready for prime time yet this fall. He might be who faces us in 2017 though.
