She's cute. I'm that much older than her so I guess I can say that?
*not that much older
last year as a sophmore she had a no hitter in the state semis(two errors)
Can't wait for her to hit campus. She'll be stepping into some pretty big shoes, succeeding Betsa & walking into a staff without a clear-cut ace. She may end up being a 4-year ace if she can transition to the D-I level effectively.
Betsa is only a junior.
So is Beaubien. She won't be on campus for us next season.
Ah, didn't realize that. Thanks.
2017 class = first year is in the 2017-18 athletic calendar year (2018 season).

It's true that the third division of Michigan HS softball is not exactly murderer's row. I would like it if we could get some more details about how she does with her travel ball team, but haven't seen too much in that department yet. That would be a better gauge of how quickly she'll transition to the college level.

They travel around the state/region/country playing other teams who sometimes travel as well.

3rd-level MI softball is a poor guage of what she will be at the college level. Gotta look at what she does during the summer travel circuit against the best in the US.
None-the-less, congrats to our future Wolverine.
coached against Happy Rock for 15 years. They have a great program up there. They even passed a proclamation that soccer is "outlawed".
So if she can shut down Happy Rock, she is the real deal.

Likely the Susalla of the 2016 class.
Two scholarship players (Uden & Skvarce) and two preferred walk ons (Hoogenraad & Gonzalez).
Madison Uden is gonna have probably the biggest shoes to ever be filled by any Michigan Softball player as the middle infielder that was recruited to take Romero's vacated spot.
If the Susalla analogy holds up, then that would be very good news indeed. Took Kelsey a couple of years to become a regular contributer, but finished her career with 2 excellent seasons. Wouldn't mind having another one of those.
Given her track/CC background, it seems likely that Hoogenraad could see the field early in a Mary Sbonek sort of role as a base-running specialist. That could get her into some games while her bat catches up to D-I pitching.
She's the #2 ranked pitcher in the country and the #5 player of overall in 2017.
All 3 in the 2017 class are ranked in the top-60 overall national player rankings by Flo.
'Tis why I laughed at the simpleton who complained about recruiting in the WCWS threads. 2019? Another top-5 nationally ranked pitcher.

Nice - that is definitely what we like to hear. :) Any stats on her travel ball games?
Flo Softball on Meghan Beaubien
Meghan had a magical year in 2015 that pushed her to the elite stratosphere as a franchise-type player. First, she led her Michigan high school team to a Div. 3 state title capping it off with a shutout in the title game and scoring her team’s runs with a two-run homer. She went 33-3 with a 0.31 ERA and 456 K’s while batting .438 with 35 RBI, a sophomore campaign that won her 1st Team FloSoftball All-American honors as well as the Gatorade State Player of the Year selection. Then, at PGF 16U Nationals, she took her team to the championship game by going 7-2 with a 1.12 ERA and 75 K’s in 62 1/3 inning, coming just a hair short of winning the title. Meghan is a lefty with an incredible change-up—perhaps the best in her class if not all of club ball—and complements it with a rise, screw and drop. She’s incredibly intelligent and driven and already is adept at understanding her strengths and opposing batters’ weaknesses. Meghan is also confident in when to throw which pitch and isn’t shy at throwing any pitch—including her 64 mph fastball—at any time.
Lou Allan is ranked #24 overall, and the #2 overall 1B in the country. Taylor Bump is at #54.
The #1 pitcher and #2 overall player (Alexis Holloway, ND) is Meghan's teammate with the Beverly Bandits.
Solid info, thanks! As expected, numbers not quite as comically dominant against elite national competition, but an ERA of 1.12 against national competition is very impressive indeed. Great to hear that she's already working with an arsenal of different pitches, instead of just relying on one or two all the time. That will serve her well at the next level.
She wears a mask when pitching. To my knowledge, she'll be the first pitcher to ever do so here. And sunglasses. Pretty cool look.
is pushing for all infielders to wear such a mask for 18U players. It will not be long when it will be required for all youth infielders.
Organized by class
2017: Betsa/Blanco/Crockett
2018: Blanco/Crockett/Beaubien
2019: Crockett/Beaubien/Hoffman
2020: Beaubien/Hoffman/Dennis
There is a possibility there for Leah Crockett to get a redshirt later on since she played in just one game in 2016.
Softball is a fun sport because the pitcher can have a bigger role than just pitching and also be a slugger and fielder when not in the circle.. michigan hasn't really let that happen, but blanco fits that mold. Based on Hutchins history, she let's pitchers bat periodically (Wagner and driesenga most recently) until they become the ace of the staff, and then she cuts them off and it's strictly pitching, so I'm curious to see how this turns out.
She literally couldn't in 2016. We needed her at 1B.
All because of catcher.
Falk is our best 1B outside of Blanco, but Falk was the best option we had at catcher. She was solid for 99% of the season. We just got exploited at the end by teams figuring out they could steal.
The catching situation sucked before the world series.. falk needs to be at first but blanco's bat forced otherwise. Falk got put in a bad situation and she did well... we desperately need a real catcher.
Blanco can still pitch and bat in the same game.
Those next couple years definitely give some area for concern. Not panic, of course, but we'll need to see Blanco and/or Crockett show a lot more than we've seen yet if we're going to have the staff we want for the tournament. One ace is great, but one of the biggest differences between this year and last was when Betsa struggled against OU, there was no Haylie Wagner to turn to like there was in 2015. Blanco has it in her, and Crockett may well have it also, but it hasn't showed up on the field yet. Will breathe easier once I see one or both of those two throw some quality innings.
SOFTBALL: @smccsoftball repeats as D3 champ, 6-0 over @calvinathletics. Meghan Beaubien throws 2nd perfect game ever in @MHSAA final. 15Ks

Back to back perfectos to win a championship - that's the kind of mean-streak, winning mentality that we can always use in Ann Arbor. Would love to see her put on a repeat performance of that in the WCWS someday. :)

Interesting note on SMCC's championship run.
They encountered Clinton HS in the regional final. 2018 pitcher commit Renee Hoffman of Clinton faced off against her future teammate in Beaubien of SMCC.
Hoffman had 13 strikeouts in Clinton's 7-1 loss to the SMCC dynasty.
