OT: Draymond Green Morticias the Adams Family

Submitted by Muttley on

According to Mike & Mike on ESPN, the story of the morning is Draymond Green's kick to Steven Adams' nuts last night.  (How can that not be the story of pontificators looking to fill air time?)

Apparently, Green had already kicked Adams' ding-a-ling once before in this series. (Oops, I did it again?) That kicking motion last night sure looks unnatural to me. Obviously, I'm not in Draymond's head and can't tell if he was going for the nuts, but it looks to me like he was intentionally trying to kick Adams.

With OKC starting to play like a team with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on it and the Warriors down 2-1, a suspension could really put Golden State back up against the wall. It would be a shame for Stephen Curry to lose out like this, but IMO Draymond Green pulled a really boneheaded move.  (The Ricochet Dong Punch?  Figurative for Literal?)

Should Draymond be suspended for a game? (And feel free to caption the incident.)

The best is on GoldenStateOfMind (GSW's sbn blog) a couple characters over there said Steven Adams was acting and he basically missed. Also trying to justify it but saying oh he flailed/flopped and that's what you do to get a foul call ... then bash LeBron for flopping.

Personally, the more I watch it, the more unnatural it looks to me and he should be suspended 1 game, no question. Draymond Green does flail a lot to try and draw whistles from the refs, but watching it in slow motion his leg unnaturally has a heck of a lot more momentum behind it and goes a lot higher than a typical "flail" would.

I also think we aren't addressing arguably the most important aspect of this discussion: Dahntay Jones, end-of-the-bench-dirty-Duke-player-for-the-Cavs, was suspended 1 game the night before this for what I would consider a similar incident. Obviously, it has basically zero implications on the Eastern Conference series because he doesn't contribute, but because they suspended Jones, they HAVE to suspend Green, right? Jones wasn't even called for a foul on the play, while Green was whistled for a Flagrant 1.

If they don't suspend Green, the NBA is publically showing its cards that player status/talent/contribution is a factor when determining suspensions. Media would jump all over it.

It was baffling how Draymond "kick 'em in the nuts" Green and Steve Kerr were actually trying to say they thought the flagrant foul should be rescinded. If it happened once maybe he gets the benefit of the doubt, but that's 2 straight games to the same guy. He needs to sit!

First, this thread title is an all timer. Second, suspensions like this have a huuuuge influence on a series relative to the severity of the offense. I'm still stung by the Amare Stoudamire suspension from a tight series between the Suns and the Spurs--he basically took three steps off of the bench because Steve Nash was brutally hipchecked into a table and got axed for a game, basically deciding an otherwise great series. But the Association also has a responsibility to deal with things like this. They automatically toss guys for punching and for really hard fouls. This is fine, as long as guys who engage in cheap stuff that might prompt such retaliation get properly disciplined. If you remove from teams the freedom to deal with something on the court, you must take that responsibility yourself. The NHL has a hard time with this, because it used to be that everything was enforced on the ice, and now there is a weird gray area where it sometimes isn't. So the NBA has to do something. Maaaaybe there was some exaggerated reaction and maaaaybe Green was just selling the foul, but it looked to me like Green was trying to take a subtle cheap shot and didn't quite nail the "subtle" part. I think you have to suspend him for a game. Third, FWIW I still enjoy the Warriors and want them to win (though an OKC-Cleveland Finals would be fascinating and I wouldn't mind either of them winning) but Green is a jerk. But I grew up a fan of the Bad Boys, so I understand a guy can be "your" jerk if he's on the right team. It's a part of the game.

Draymond likes grabbing other guys' dicks. What a punk. Combine that with the lovely photo of Conner Cook poking his teammate in the butt and you can see a trend at Staee.

I hope he isn't suspended, thinks he's smarter than everybody else, and does it again... while claiming it was again accidental.

I'd just like to see it start an all-out brawl that results in what is left of him being mopped from the court.
