Saturday Night Drinking Thread + What's Up with the Tigers?
Mates,
What is in your glass/bottle/keg? Also, saw my first Tiger game in years today (quick round trip downstate) and everything was perfect....except the Tigers. They were slow, lethargic, had crap at bats, Sanchez didn't even get an out in the 3 rd inning before they had to yank him, and Miggy looked like he gained 30 lbs and was taking tranquilizers. Errors on defense, Salt(too many vowels) can hit, but he couldn't throw a runner out in little league and launched one throw into center field.
The Tigers have lost 5 out of the last 6, including two to the Indians at home. JV pitched well last night but no hitting.
So, please diagnose the Tigers and have an adult beverage.
XM
first, he is the emotional leader of the club, and like i said, they all looked like they went to a 'compassion club' before the game.
second, i noted that he's calling all the pitches during the game and whatever he was dialing up for the indians wasn't working. it was a hitting slaughter out there.

or maybe you lost a bet and/or are drunk?
I live in Florida, and I love a Belgian style witbeir with citrus and corriander called Florida Cracker (yeah, that's where that term started). I'm also going to drink a brown ale infused with key lime, called KeyBilly (this beer is freaking delicious on a hot summer day).
Have to try that Florida Cracker one day but can't go wrong with Jai Alai.
As far as the Tigers, ausmus is the problem. I wish they would have let him go last year.
with whom....?

They're poorly managed, and not very good. Oh well.
Started with a Rogue chocolate stout and now moving on to Jack and Coke. Cheers.
Agreed he's not really the problem -- they're just not that good. Still have bullpen issues and the starters have taken a serious step back vs. a few years ago. But I am also convinced by now (not based on this season) that Mr. Ausmus is not a very good manager. I suppose he'll be gone by the time the team is good again.
Maybe I'm being too pessimistic. Just saw that Freep (sorry, I know) article about the Wings' contract situations. Need another drink.

What's wrong with the Tigers? It's baseball, you're bound to win 60 games and lose 60, the rest is where the season is made. Miggy and Upton will get it together soon enough. Now the real question is whether they can get Sanchez back to being a sub 4.00 ERA guy, because if they dont then the rotation is real thin.

on his pitches, so he had that going for him. i think his top heater was like 91-92 mph. if that ball isn't moving a little, that is just BP for big league hitters.
Drinking vodka mixed with Sprite Zero and cranberry. My drink of choice. The wife is pregnant and obviously can't drink. But otherwise she would always partake with me. I wanted to get some of the board's thoughts on drinking while the wife is pregnant. Bad husband for doing so?
and tapering off to about zero as the day nears - you never know when it will be time to race to the hospital. i have done that more than most, and can't remember ever having had any booze on those nights/days, though i'm a pretty light drinker to begin with.

We've talked about it and she's "fine" with it. I think sometimes it gets on her nerves. Other times she's totally cool with it. But you know women, you can't assume everything is cool just because she says so. This is why I like to get the general public's opinion.

Regarding the first thing, I don't know that I would want Ausmus to be a feared presence so much as a respected one, but I don't even know if it really goes that far. That sort of brings us to the third point, in my view, because leadership should come from him and flow downward - it really doesn't seem like there is any on-field leadership like that. I could me misinterpreting things, of course, but I couldn't tell you with certainty who the "captain" is, if you will.
Gene Lamont is still on the bench next to Ausmus.
Sometimes I wonder if it might even be like in "Weekend at Bernie's", with someone hiding behind Lamont (as large as he is, wouldn't be difficult) and providing just enough arm movement to make it look like Lamont still has 'awareness'.
