total meltdown.

But, I really hate how fouling down the stretch can completely change a game like this.

I can't think of any other sport where breaking the rules repeatedly can give your team an actual competitive advantage. Really bothers me.

I totally agree. With the 3 being shot so often, why penalize the victim of the foul by saying you can only get 2 points on free throws. Teams trailing who foul when the player is outside the 3 point line (which they'd be if they're in the backcourt) with 2 minutes or less left, should result in 3 free throws for the team that's fouled.

You can intentionally foul in soccer without being carded let alone a red card, teams take delay of game penalties on purpose to affect field position, in NASCAR drivers willingly take certain penalties for advantages, it happens in just about every sport - it's part of strategy.

I have NO problem with fouling down the stretch to extent the game. What I do have a problem with is the "Hack-A-Player" strategy. That's bullshit because that player doesn't have the ball. It should be 1 dead ball free throw and retain possession if a team does that.

Now if Shaq, DeAndre Jordan, Dwight Howard, etc. are in the game and those players get the ball and they're fouled...so be it, go to the line and make your damn free throws. The other teams fouls will build up. At least they have the ball. But hugging a man 70 feet from the basket without the ball is ridiculous.

Eh—basketball is also the only sport where a timer more or less forces multiple possession changes every minute. End-of-game fouling is actually in the spirit of the game. It's just about getting possession back, which the shot clock also encourages.

Now that said, the point about 2 FTs not being a good enough reward in this era of 3FG accuracy is a good one.

3 shots if you're outside the 3 point line, 2 shots if you're inside...however, now you're forcing the refs to make a judgement call.

What if you're WVU or VCU and you're just a pressing team? The game is tight late and you're doing what you've done all game.

You can't honestly say it's an intentional foul.

Or how many times do you see a team down 3 with a minute to go? They're playing physical and they're trapping and pressing, but they don't need to foul in that situation.

Texas A&M just won a game because of this. If you call an intentional foul when they're just doing what any team would do - that's silly.

It's just something for message board folks to complain about, but if we're honestly asking for refs to be subjective and make judgement calls on what is and isn't intentional - they're going to be going to the monitor every game and it's going to be even more painful to watch. It's a nice thought, the 3 shots for intentionally fouling, but now you're asking people to judge what is/isn't intentional. If you say you got 3 shots for any foul that late, you're hurting teams like VCU, WVU who run that D all game. You're also allowing a team up 2 with 40 seconds to go to go up 5 if they hit all 3. You eliminate the trade 3 for 2 strategy.

Refs fall for the acting job by Wisconsin. My God. It's like watching clutching and grabbing in hockey - the skilled guys are taken away by players flopping around and refs falling for it.

I feel so bad for the Xavier kids - they were robbed by the zebras. Same with UNI if they don't pull it out. The refereeing in these games is so bad they are almost unwatchable.
