Damn. Get off the ledge people. ND was a better team. Couple of their dudes got hot.

Ripping our kids that tried hard?

This board is better than this.

drjaws.  Honestly, we got about as far as this injury-ridden talent-depleted team could be expected to get.

It just seems to hurt more when it looked at halftime like we could take the Irish.  Frustrated as anyone else, but I refuse to rip our players and coach---I prefer to spew my venom at the refs, who once again certainly deserve it.  Not only on that gawdawful charging call on Wagner that wiped out what should have been a bucket+1 (MAJOR turning point), but on at least a half-dozen wrong 2nd half calls.  Fuck that shit  the refs seem to dish at Michigan game-after-game-after-game!!!!   If there is any one thing that bothers me about Coach B, it's that he's too easy on the officials and needs to sharpen his teeth and claws and go after them.

played good defense and fought for rebounds.  One missed shot does not make him terrible.  He played well in those last 5 minutes.  If Walton or Irvin make any of those 3 open 3's, we have a very different game.

Also, one awful call on the Wagner 3 point play was by far the biggest play of the game.

hard to say that ND was a better team quit being a pussy, we should have won if not for bone head ass donnal and Zak irvin taking a 30 footer with 9 tics left when we had 34 tics to get two shots...

Maybe if Beilein would have been an assistant coach somewhere he would have learned a little about coaching. The man is lost out there. No passion. No changes. No preparation. Awful substitutions. Maybe putting him on the hot seat will light a spark. He seems to be settling for mediocrity.

He is the one that has done so many things for our team. From big ten championships to final four to even having us in the right place at half of this game. Hear me out please. He absolutely needs a strong willed assistant that tells him obvious things that he needs to hear so he doesnt ruin the great things he has built. 1. Play wagner huge minutes. If he fouls out then thats what happens but wasting 25 minutes on the bench is much much worse than fouling out with 5 minutes left. 2. Second half they were man right? Maar every time with the ball. He is your new darius morris. Remember him? Yeah when irvin, walton, robinson all become spot up shooters this roster is damn good. 3. Doyle and donnal are like alarms. Break glass incase of emergency. Thats it, they are bad. 4. Autobench has robbed you of this game and the championship. New rule only two things can sit someone- the fourth foul or the refs. THATS IT! Try it Donnal on the floor was a choice make it a worse case. 5. You worst sub needs to be replaced with a tall guy. If it means terrible wagner instead of supee dakich so be it. Wagner could handle the expectations of a dakich i promise. Coach let someone save you from you.

and not you.

Some people love the look.  UM looks way worse than we are.  MSU looks way better than they are.   MAAR does what he does, but he doesn't create anything other than his own show.  Last game people talked like he was player of the game with his 5-14 shooting with 0 assists.  That doesn't get it done.   Walton and Irvin are our guys.  Play though them and the team is better, even if you untrained 'coaches' can't see it.  Advanced metrics don't lie.

Coach just needs some input at critical time. This is from the front page

"A struggling star player. Iffy post play and equally iffy substitution pattern"

"Michigan will be left to wonder: What if John Beilein gave Wagner a longer leash or at least played him ahead of Ricky Doyle? What if Irvin and Walton could play well in the same game? What if MAAR shifted to the point instead of sticking at the two while the team went two scoreless minutes with Andrew Dakich running the offense?"

This was posted after my post. Its obvious Coach B is a master no doubt but tthese are all glaring issues.  You are wrong here my friend..

You're right at that point MAAR needs the ball every possession initiating. Beilein has been screwing his team for years sitting guys unnecessarily because of fouls. It's indefensible and he needs to be called out on it. This man is stubborn to a fault, there is no reason for Dakich to ever be playing meaningful minutes at Michigan. It is 4 on 5 when he plays, so why would a coach deliberately put their team at such a disadvantage voluntarily? Its bullshit. Dakich couldn't start at most community colleges.

Rewatch it.  UM played well down the stretch.  UM had better shots and played better defense.  ND hit some shots, UM missed good looks.  It happens.  That doesn't mean you have a bad coach, and it doesn't mean you have bad players.

Good game, good playing, bad result.

This is a top 20 team next year with one more player in the rotation at the 1-3 (Simpson or Watson)  If Irvin is healthy all summer, he will  be ready to be 1st team all B1G.

but why?  Which part don't you see.   They got 10 points from their 5 position, we got 15.  We almost never lose the 5 position.  We lose the 2-3.  Robinson and MAAR.  We lost tonight because Beachem went 7-7 with 4-4 from 3.   That was it.  ND is a 6 seed, ie 21-24 national rank.  With our entire team back, and nobody having off-season surgery, we are already even with them.  Why do you think UM isn't top 20 next year.   The biggest issue down the stretch was too many minutes played and guys getting tired.  One more guy in the rotation will help that significantly.

You switched from talking about the fives to total rebounding rates.  Michigan's bigs don't do the bulk of the rebounding.  Their Dreb rate is good, which means they don't, as a team, give up many offensive rebounds.  Their Oreb rate is 301st in the country, leaving them with an overall reb rate of 201st in the country.  How you can try to spin that into a positive is beyond me.

The bigs stink on defense.  Michigan is 3rd (I think) in points allowed in the paint.  That's not solely on the bigs, but it is largely on them.  They don't defend post players well and they don't defend the rim well (block % is 309th in the country).  ND's big didnt' score a ton only because Michigan sent help (as they usually do) whenever the ball went into the post.  That leaves 3 point shooters open on the perimeter, which we saw in the ND game.

The simple fact is that a team with a decent big will not be as terrible defensively as this Michigan team is.  It's not only the big's fault, but they are a large part of the problem.  It's pointless to go round and round any further on this with you.  I don't think Beilein should be fired or that he is a terrible coach.  But his centers have been brutally bad the last two seasons and that is a problem.  I'm not sure what it would take to convince you of that, and guess we've reached an impasse.

A shooting team that can't shoot or make layups. Bigs that are soft, and have bad hands. Interesting team that Beilein has put together.

His early season stats shoud largely be ignored (and some of him playing into shape was a big cause of the UConn and X games).   Nobody believed Valentine was a fBig Ten first teamer a year ago, much less an all-american.  Irvin's first 2 years showed a lot of promise.  He was getting pretty good at the pick and roll last year.  And his shot, with good legs, is a solid 40%.  Put those together with a solid off season and we will see.  I'm not saying he will be national POY by any stretch, but 1st team all B1G is well within reach.

SDCran

None of their points down the stretch was on him.  He helped once, made a good play and Walton/Irvin didn't help for the rebound, but that was it.

Tell me on which play you disagree.

precisely because of the encouraging first half. There are signs of hope for next year. MAAR and Wagner should continue to improve. Simpson should contribute immediately. Robinson will have his legs under him. But damn, if we can't figure out how to catch the ball cleanly and DUNK it, there will only be more postseason sadness. But hey, at least the spring game is right around the corner. Go Blue!

I like Beilien and I think he's a good coach and I'm glad he's here. I do , however, disagree with a few things. Dakich should never play. MAAR can run point when Walton needs a blow. We could adjust our subs accordingly where Dakich doesn't need to see the floor. Mo is our best big offensively and defensively and when he puts on about 25lbs, he going to be legit. He should have played more this season to help with his development. We should have definitely called timeout when we were down 3 with the ball. I'll never understand why we didn't. There's a lot of haters on this board. I think Walton played a hell of a game. The effort was there. The charge on Mo was bullshit. They adjusted. I don't know why the fuck they were playing a zone in the first place. Levert and Spike, we're a sweet 16 team easy. Let it go. Football is coming.

Also, I understand the auto sub. I coached high school for a few years. I'll agree he is definitely stubborn with it and there are exceptions to every rule. He needs an assistant that can talk some sense into him. That's what assistant coaches are for. He doesn't seem to have any help in game where an assistant can talk him out of something or get him to see a different perspective. Again, I like Beiline. He's def hard headed though. We should have won that game
