Rest of the Afternoon (Big Ten & elsewhere ) Basketball /Bubble Watch Thread
Add in snowflakes from that umm, performance, as well. Though I'm not sure I want to think much about it; not that I want to think about what lies ahead tomorrow, either.
On to Indiana and a squad full of athletes + Maxamillion "6th man of the year" Bielfeldt. Ugh.
Go Blue.
Nobody has us in the tournament and most national people are saying beat indiana or bust? Its not like we are 9 seed panicking about the bubble.

Where we get screwed is the early season 300s we play. We must start playing a better non conference. Rutgers hurts us too.
Probably a 6-7 unless they win today and tomorrow. Iowa also has two big road wins against MSU and Purdue, while our best road win is against NC State, who won't make the NIT. They also had a slightly harder conference schedule than we did (they had 2 games each against Indiana and MSU instead of our 2 each against Maryland and Minnesota).
I ask that you step back for a moment and ask yourself why you are actively advocating why your team should not be in the tournament?
I don't think the committee asks "What is mfan_in_ohio's opinion?" Also, if you go back and actually read what I wrote, I wasn't suggesting that Michigan didn't belong in the tournament. I was arguing that 1) Iowa is in no way a 3-4 seed (they are about a 7 if they lose to Illinois today), and 2) that Michigan's resume is less good than theirs.
I think Michigan's resume compares well with, for example, Vanderbilt, especially if they lose to Tennessee today. Michigan's problem was a lack of games against NIT-level competition, where they could have (theoretically) padded their record against the top 100. Same with Syracuse, with their three bad losses. VCU has two bad losses and their only two wins against tournament teams are against teams on or close to the bubble, so I like our resume compared to theirs.
If we lose tomorrow, there is a chance, as long as those bubble teams all lose, and there are no bid thieves. Cincinnati really needs to win their conference, and Temple and Tulsa losing would be great.
I don't get this either - I think we deserve to be in. The stupidness of the RPI, and the arbitrary way the committee breaks it down (top 50, top 100, etc) is working against us.

did you not read his post?
we've only beaten 2 ranked (at the time we played them) teams and every loss has been by double digits, save for maryland.
Still need that win tomorrow. I don't think it will really matter what other teams do if we get it. Otherwise be ready for a long NIT run in front of a half full crowd
...we should just go on the road, lose, and get the season over. Between the Red Wings saying "we don't need to upgrade" then fall apart after the trade deadline and this half-interested basketball team, I'm doubling down on the negativity so my hopes don't get crushed. We win tomorrow and I'll be happy. We lose and I'll just look forward to a free weekend.
I give our guys lots of credit for making some big plays down the stretch - but they also messed lots of things up and played soft most of the game. It's on the coaching staff.
also got a lot of bad bounces down the stretch. Some of it was on the players and failing to take advantage of opportunities, no question and we did get some breaks too. But it has been a long time since that ball bounced the right way just cuz.
Yes there's some luck to it, but it's also an issue of wanting the damn ball. With the exception of Walton, nobody goes after it hard. (Ironic that he was the guy with the brain fart at the end). It's not a coincidence that we corral loose balls at such a low rate.
they always, ALWAYS lead to back-breaking results. Irvin has a steal lined up on OT and literally could have gone the other way for a dunk instead he bobbles it, has to save it, saves it right to Olah, who is pushed by Donnal trying to get the ball, he fouls out, and it all leads to a Demps three that completely changes the complexion of the game. W T F ! ?
is the idea that we could get a dunk on a fast break. LOL.
I meant a missed layup (with an over the back foul on us likely after the miss).

at all
You are right! On another positive note, we will never have to deal with Alex Olah again! Glass half full. Go Blue!
shouldn't have responded like I did, that was a frustrating game and I know what you are saying. I just think everybody could use to be a little upbeat within our own reality. Our reality is that we are not very good but we pulled one out today and that means I get to watch at least one more basketball game that I care about this season and that is a good thing. :) Smiles everybody.
who is this "Anonymous Coward" with no mgopoints? Is it SectionOne or the GhostofYost?
**Edit: nevermind. When I refereshed this page, it went back to normal with everyone's username showing up . But that was very weird.
but that is not what your'e asking, i don't think
missed bubble opportunity right there.
They are in 9 brackets to our 8 on bracket matrix. We are pretty much in the same boat and nobody would know who would get in of the two until they start leaking names *cough* joe lunardi *cough*.
think he gets an "inside scoop?" Seriously wondering. Jerry Palm seems a lot more Michigan friendly right now and Lunardi seems to hate us like we slapped his mother.
Yeah...about that. She was running her mouth at bingo and that doesn't go in the bingo hall.
it or not, I think it has to with our own fan base's perception of the team. We have the resume to get in the tournament and should certainly be in over Florida, Monmouth, Valpo, and a few others, but for the most part we hate our own team right now and I think it is contagious.
i'm not hooooooome
WindyCityBlue, Stringer Bell, JCV16, Ty Butterfield, We are back etc.
the bracketologists and committee members are just scrolling through our posts, nodding and taking notes.
I've never said a bad word about JB. In fact I've clearly said several times that I don't want JB fired....yet

up 5 on Vandy midway through the first half.
you don't get credit if they aren't coming back for the tournament.
They blew it, Florida still right there with us. People also keep forgetting record in your last 10 games matters (it shouldn't but that is a different argument). Michigan did not finish well.
Per the committee, that criterion has been dropped.
Florida is gonna hold on. Damn.

if we beat indiana, we are probably in even with a loss to iowa or purdue. But a loss to illinois could knock us right back out.
