Navy's Keenan Reynolds breaks Denard's record (rushing yards for a QB)

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Just did it midway through the 3rd quarter. If it was going to go down, couldn't have been to a better person and player.

Congrats to Keenan.

With his 48 yard run, Keenan Reynolds now has the most career rush yards by a QB in FBS history with 4,518 yards.

True, I wasn't as sold on Tate as many others were.

Denard wasn't a lock for the posiiton either, but as we learned, habits formed off the field and during the offseason (Denard showed up all the time/did his schoolwork/got the respect of his teammates).

Tate was as careless off the field as he was on the field.

That reminds me of something I've wondered about for a while: how is it that Navy and Army play their annual rivalry game after the regular season has ended for everyone else and bowl pairings have already been announced? Is it an exhibition game?

They've always played the game then. There's an agreement that some bowls will hold off on announcing bids if the game impacts bowl eligibility. If Navy hadn't lost late in the year, such a scenario might have happened, since they'd have been potentially eligible for the non-power conference slot in the NY6 bowls.

My brother went to the Naval Academy so I've had the pleasure of watching him the last four years, 100% class act on and and off the field. Couldn't have hoped for a better person to take the record.

Did Kennan Reynold's achieve a Division 1 record? Yup. Did he earn it? Yup.

However, I compare this to the all time Division 1 wins record by a QB. Held by Kellen Moore from Boise State!

Who "was" the previous record holder? Colt McCoy from Texas. I believe he lost it to Kellen Moore by 1 game.

Denard and Colt both played against much better competition. However, they are both 2nd in their respective categories.

I get it, there are 128? teams in D1 ball, but I love Denard and will always remember his records at Michigan.

Was his record beaten? Yes. Was his accomplishments topped? Nope.

I agree with what you are saying but then you also have to consider navy's offensive line vs michigan and Boise state offense and defense vs Texas offense and defense. They had an easier slate on the schedule but they also had less to work with than a michigan or Texas.

I disagree. Keenan Reynolds played, and beat some very solid teams during his 4 year run. Obviously Navy doesn't play our caliber of schedule, but for the makeup of their team (mostly guys who are not highly recruited ), I feel like this is a very legit record. I would argue that this year, the AAC is as good as that conference has ever been in their short history. Michigan would have gotten beat by Houston in my opinion, and possibly Memphis, and Temple as well. What Reynolds did this year, vs the competition he played comforts me in knowing that Keenan is the real deal and is beyond deserving of the record.

Throw some dreads, some untied shoes, and a billion dollar smile on Reynolds and you have Denard 2.0 (Albeit a slower version)

Michigan probably would've beaten temple bc they don't have a good offense, but they should've beat ND.

I think Houston would've beaten us bc they have as good or better offense than IU, and were on par or better than OSU most of the season from the film I saw. While the competition was less for Houston, their offense would tear our second 1/2 of season defense to shreds. I thought Houston had a better D than IU so I absolutely think they could've beaten us.

I watch a lot of film on all sorts of teams so that I can extract certain plays & Schemes for the teams I coach for. I watched a lot of Houstom because I find Tom Hermann to be a very sound offensive play caller.

Good for him. This guy is a class act and he should've been a Heisman finalist for what he has achieved. Good luck in whatever you decide to do next, Keenan.

That is not that impressive considering they run more at Navy than Denard did while at Michigan. Denard's stats are more impressive considering he passed more than this dude.

At least to me, at the end of the day, records like this are impressive whoever breaks them really, whatever offense in which they managed it. I realize that in a triple option creates more opportunities to run, but even then it is impressive amount of production from the feet of one person over the course of four seasons. It still is unbelievable that this kid was not a Heisman finalist - not quite sure how things like that happen.
