Uniformz: Nike says that our new uniforms will be traditional and not have many changes

Submitted by michgoblue on

Nothing concrete, but the Nike design director for NFL and NCAA apparel said at a Nike event that Nike is "planning on sticking close to tradition" with respect to our uniforms and that Michigan will retain much of the creative controle over our uniforms.  Here's the money quote that is sure to make many here (including me) happy:

“Especially with (Jim) Harbaugh there and his roots there. I would foresee something more along the lines of what we know and love about Michigan.”

If I am being honest, I must admit that I have the same low standard with respect to Michigan branded stuff.  My basement / kids' playroom has block-M carpet, with Michigan fat heads and assorted banners on the walls, my closet is filled with Michigan t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, workout pants, a tie, cuff links, slippers, etc; my BBQ area outside has M-branded serving platters and cups, and the BBQ sports a new M-branded cover.  There are M picture frames, containing pictures of my kids wearing M branded jerseys and clothing.  My coffee mug is M branded, and my car has the obligatory M alumni license plate frame.  Over my older son's bed is a huge panoramic of the Big House, and his closet has about as much Michigan stuff as mine.

I suspect that of most of us are honest, we have the same standard with respect to Michigan branded stuff as WD.

I have some memorabilia and apparel but not enough to consider it a Michigan theme.

3 hockey jerseys

3 fooball jerseys

1 baseball jersey

1 basketball jersey

4 hoodies (3 of them are for working out)

2 t shirts

Is that WD level?

Why would they veer away from tradition? Haven't we done that enough. It's part of the reason we brought them back. Not to mention his other quote about how we'll have control of a lot of the decisions, clearly! The last 7-8 years have been disastrous for uniformz.

According to Nate Retzlaff, Nike's design director of NFL and NCAA apparel, Michigan will maintain much of the creative control over one of college sports' most iconic looks.

I had thought that was one of the things announced along with the deal initially, that we would essentially get the right of refusal on basically any design should the program dislike it. I do like the idea of having that sort of built-in protection though - there is no reason to make a wholesale change to Michigan's look at all.

thinking about the color purple (no not the movie) and how there would be moments in a game where the jersey color would distract me from the game.

Well now its distracting me from enjoing mgoblog. THERE IS PURPLE EVERYWHERE! NOOOOOOOO

is this a perception thing because I've never seen this as purple before?

There's something about the Nike logo that is just better than Adidas.  Swapping the logos (even Jumpman) will improve the uniforms.

Should always stay with the basic look. However I would love if we pulled out a unique look on an alternate uni once in a while. Just to break it up.
