OT: Do you have a "second" college football or basketball team?

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Outside of "whoever is playing OSU" or "whoever is playing MSU" or "whoever is playing ND"...do you have a second team in college football and men's basketball? If so, who?

Football - I sometimes try to like other teams, but I really don't give a shit. I have teams I don't like, but I don't have a #2. I'll follow the schools I've worked at (who have football) - Towson, Maryland, UCF. But that's about it. I've tried to follow UNC and Texas a little bit, but in the end, I really don't care at all.

Basketball - UNC, because, FUCK DUKE. And if it's FUCK DUKE...then you may as well like their biggest rival. And now we're JORDAN BRAND!

Grew up a Buckeye (THANKS MOM!) before going to Michigan for undergrad. If you count grad then I suppose Cornell but they suck at everything except hockey so let's be honest here.

My sister and a few cousins go to UF and I grew up in south Florida for a while so i also root for the Gators... which has really sucked the past few years because the past few seasons, both UM and UF have been going through the same shitty seasons and coaching changes!

Miami football - family in Miami, fell in love with those teams of the late 90s/early 2000s

North Carolina basketball- love their style of play and Roy Williams owns Izzo.

That will always be tied 1 next to OSU as well. WMU since that is the hometown team even know they don't get on TV very much unless they Big 10 team.

Wisconsin for me. I grew up a casual fan because both of my parents are alumni. Was also born in Wisconsin and all of my extended family is still in the state. My brother is also a current student there now (aka I'm the black sheep).

I'm not super into Wisconsin, but I'll always root for them if they aren't playing Michigan or them winning wouldn't harm our outlook. However, my affinity for them slips a little bit every year that they are better overall than Michigan and I have to deal with sass.

I was born in Syracuse where my father was a Centennial Professor . Syracuse football is unwatchable these days, but grew up seeing greats like Jim Brown ( too small to really remember much about him playing), Ernie Davis ( one of the best college running backs ewer in my opinion ) , Larry Czonka, Floyd Little, John Mackey..Then the program went down hill ..Later Greg Robinson became coach.Syracuse only gave him 4 years, Brady Hoke, until they fired him for incompetence..

Basketball has been very good since Jim Boeheim became coach and I will still watch and cheer for SU Basketball unless they play Michigan

But No. One is not Orange but.... Blue !

Kentucky for me unless they're playing Michigan in basketball. In football, I don't have to worry about that so much. ;) Since moving to KY several years ago, I was harped on to pick a "side" (either UL or UK) I couldn't stomach the thought of cheering for a team in red and it helps that my BF is a huge UK fan.

I tend to pick a local team wherever I live. Previously I lived in the Cincinnato area so I picked UC but I didn't follow them closely. Now I live in South Carolina and there's no way I'll cheer for a Steve Spurrier team or an SEC team so USC is out. So I picked the other big team here locally which has a lot more sucess than USC as well as great traditions. I now cheer for Clemson as well.

In football I can't root for anybody else 1/4 of as much as I root for Michigan.  I have no "second" team.

In basketball I've loved Xavier basketball since I've been able to hold a basketball so they would be my "second" team.
