Best case/worse case Michigan football (ESPN)

Submitted by RogueRage on

As far as ESPN standards go, this article is at least somewhat entertaining. I think the best case is better than 10-2 but it's still an interesting read during August. TLDR: Best case: 10-2 with losses to both rivals and a Rose Bowl. Worst case: 6-6 with a Toys-R-Us resurgence.  http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/122357/best-caseworst-case-michigan-wolverines

Minnesota is 100 times better than Maryland and much more of a road threat.

I firmly believe that 2015 Maryland will be in the bottom two of the East (with Indiana), and I would not be worried about them. They were lucky to beat us last year, and lose more starters than literally any other team in the entire Big Ten (including their best player), and have next to zero good recruits coming in. If we lose to Maryland this year, we will struggle to make a bowl game.

Best case is baffling--both games are at home. Yes, we will probably lose both, but it's not inconceivable that we'd win one. We almost beat OSU in 13, when, on paper, we had no business almost beating them

I just don't see any scenario possible where a single conference gets two teams in the playoffs while there's still only 4 spots. Maybe when it expands to 8 or so, but not before. Would be insanely hard to justify leaving two major conference's champs out in the cold at this point. Especially after in the inaugural playoff the team most considered the least deserving to make it in won the whole damn thing pretty convincingly.

Best case scenario is obviously 12-0 then glory. Likelihood? Almost zero. The best *not crazytalk* scenario is a very lucky 11-1. Likelihood? Slim. The best *realistic* scenario is 10-2. Likelihood? Slim-to-moderate.

I'd wager our range is 6-10 wins and our likely wins fall somewhere in the 8-9 range.

(Yes, I know--hardly risky predictions.)

ESPN sucks the big dong in my opinion and it doesn't take the 'mothership's' resources to say MICHIGAN will go 6-6 or 10-2 or somewhere in between.

Just stop fucking up all the time with turnovers and the team goes from last year's 5-7 to 7-5 or so.  Add in competent coaches with some experience on O-Line and 8-4 or 9-3 become plausible.

I'm glad the season opens with Utah, versus App State or some MAC team like EMU, Bowling Green or Miami(OH).  I think it will be good for the team to open on the road, committed and together and without all the additional hype and hoopla that will come in Week 2 at MICHIGAN STADIUM.

....I don't get the Gardner hate in the thread at all.  Not at all.  He was completely caught in a terrible situation during his tenure and endured a lot.  He's tough, smart and a great representative for the University.

This team is more talented than Harbaugh's last Stanford team. Rudock, with Harbaugh's guidance will be Luck 2.0 and we will challenge for a Big Ten championship and a playoff birth...Book it.

My best case.
