OT: Your stadium stories, worst experiences?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

i want to be entertained and need a good laugh on this hump day, so let's talk about bad stadium experiences.

I was at the opening day in 2009 at comerica where there was a massive brawl outside the park before it even opened. I think it's on youtube. Anyways, I had a coke in my hand and a dude fighting got pushed into me and the coke went everywhere, splashing on the drunk next to me who probably had anger issues and he tried to fight me.

2006 vs Northwestern was raining in the cold. Not freezing rain. We were soaked in cold weather. But even that young, I still wanted to go in before the game to watch the band and warmups like I still do to this day.

I know 2008 vs Northwestern was 100x worse, the difference being a great Michigan team winning the game, but I wasn't at the 2008 game so I can't say I had an experience there.

Luckily the sun came out after the 2006 game. You're always warmer when you win. Even after MBB games this year it has been freezing cold, but I don't feel it because I'm so charged up from wins.

WORST:  Bama in Dallas.  Michigan fanz had one of the endzone plazas and Bama the other.  For some insane reason, two Bama fans were on the Michigan plaza.  The absolutely most obnoxious woman & man you would ever encounter.  We were outmatched from the kickoff and they made sure we knew it every second of the game.   It was absolute torture to keep your composure.  If I didn't have my son with me I would have done something I regretted.

BEST:  Under The Lights #1.  We were in Section 6 Row 30, which is great for viewing south endzone action.  The euphoria/despair/euphoria we all experienced in the last 5 minutes of the game resonated with me for weeks after.  To this day when I need a "pick-me-up" I watch the YouTube videos of that night.

Some of you guys have to do saints work, especially in the student section. If you happen to see this I'm curious if you've seen a change for the worse in the attitudes of fans. From my perspective the stadium experience has become worse since seemingly anything goes now a days.

Took my 9yr old son to the OSU game in 2013. Michigan scored and went for two right in front of us! I've never felt crowd energy like that before. We weren't sure if we should cheer or be quiet when they went for two. I guess we were too loud because DG threw the pick... Anyways I did get to see an over served U of M fan throw up on an OSU group 1 row down! That was awesome!!!! Go Blue!!!

MSU game in East Lansing. I met a friend who was going to school there. I was pretty low key but got all kinds of grief from fans. When I wouldn't respond one guy started calling me a pussy and fag. It got worse from there. He wanted a fight and even showed up outside of the stadium. I never liked MSU but I learned to hate them that afternoon. And yeah, it was one fan but nobody around him told him to shut up or sit down. So they are and forever will be that guy working out his Michigan rejection letter (so I told myself) and uncontrollable inferiority complexes. So it is, through highs and lows, I always know my diploma is more valuable than a score, a season or multiple seasons. And that's what the know too.

Back in the 70's women used to be lifted and passed up to the top of the stadium - no part of the woman's body was off limits in achieving the ultimate goal of getting her to the top. Of course, everyone was drinking and getting high in the stadium back then so it seemed like a reasonable, fun thing to do. Right? My freshman year, I was lifted and passed up. I have to say, it was pretty cool on the way up until I was dropped and ended up pretty bruised and sore. That excellent tradition ended with an urban legend that a woman did make it to the top and was then thrown over ,plummeting to her death. Those were the days.

It was hotter than hell but it was nothing compared to the heat inside me for the Michigan fan screaming at the Michigan players. I sat in section 24, about 5 rows from the sideline and this loudmouthed asshole was screaming obscenities at the kids on the sideline and they heard him. A number of them turned around and he just kept at it until I finally lost it. He wanted to fight me and the guy behind me right there and I was ready to because he was just vile. So that takes my top spot for worst experience and I've been to Spartan Stadium more than once.

Number two would be the 2008 Rose Bowl. The amount of frat bros was insane. For the added joy of it add in the stadium is 80% USC fans and of those 50% were band wagoners plus the thrashing they gave Michigan made for a shitty event.

2008 Northwestern game. It's the only sporting event I left early. My gf at the time said she couldn't feel her toes and convinced me to leave. I have no idea when we left but we watched the rest on TV. Of course my gf's raincoat was purple. It didn't work out.

My worst in the past several years was probably at Nebraska.  The Nebraska fans were mostly very polite and decent, on two occasions Nebraska fans even went out of their way to thank me for coming.  The stadium, though left a lot to be desired (they have since added some new seating that is quite nice).  I was up in the corner, row 90 something, and the only way in or out was to walk up or down approx 70 rows of bleachers.  After Denard's injury, the game absolutely sucked.
