Illinois 64, Michigan 52 (OT)
Those moving pictures are the thousands of words you very much don't want to read about Michigan giving up a 21-2 run to close out yet another overtime loss. Worst of all, perhaps, is I couldn't lead off this post with Aubrey Dawkins taking Nnanna Ewgu for a ride on the BOFA Express.
This is apparently what happens when your only trusted inbounder is 5'10". I don't much like it.

Well, we weren't that good even before Levert got injured.

What does the A stand for in the Balls On Face ____ Express mean?!
February 12th, 2015 at 11:59 PM ^
I didn't realize it was an acronym. I always thought it was slang for "both of," as in "BOFA deez nuts in yo face!"

You guys professing doom and gloom are hilarious. This team has lost 5 NBA early entries over the past two years and has their best two players injured. And yet we're still a few close losses away from being on the bubble.
Next year, Michigan gets the ENTIRE team back except for possibly Levert. There are no seniors on this team! Add in the fact that we can expect much more progress than the average team given that many of our major contributors are freshmen. Spike is pretty much the only player who's at or close to ceiling.
Just chill for a minute, enjoy this great time in Michigan basketball, and realize that it can get much, much worse than this.

We also lose Bielfeldt who has been surprisingly good.

Dear Ace,
Alex Ruff is a good friend of mine. From Sandusky (well, Huron). Go Bucks!

Spike's aneurysm of frustration.

I won't make excuses for injuries, and Beilein won't either - I like that.
I also think these guys played well tonight. Little things here and there that our guys do well and don't do well. Most notably though, end of game defense - need to work on that full court press more so we're not giving up decent half court looks with a few seconds left. Those go in sometimes, and it sucks when they do. Also - WTF inbounding? Does not look like this is something we practice.
Not sure about the late game offense. By late game, I mean regulation only. Overtime offense does not exist. I think the lack of any offensive sets being run in the last few regulation possessions help create the nosedive we've fallen into during overtimes.

It's tough to watch these guys play so tough and then let it slip away in the final moments. They had no reason being in that game, but kept fighting. This young team is growing before our eyes and getting invaluable experience for next year. Dawkins and MAAR games are growing every day. Spike and Max are playing outside themselves. I might just stop watching the last 3 minutes of games because the rest of the game is so enjoyable.
And if anything Beilein is showiing how he can throw everything in the book at the other team with a group of ragtag players and compete with anyone. He has pulled unbelievable players in this system. Who else would know that Trey Burke and Nik Stausas are future first rounders but Beilein? Forget the record. This team and coach deserve a lot of respect.

Wow what the hell happened. I though this game was in the bag!

I missed the opening tip but saw him playing early. Did he start?
I also saw his typical run back and play defense which consists of running in a circle near the foul line looking for someone to guard. Last night I believe it was Rahk who pointed where to go, but Illinois also saw the open man at the block for an easy layup.
Wash-rinse-repeat.
He may have the physical tools to play at this level but I am not seeing a player that has grown at all during the season. He is a defensive liability and his offense isn't good enough to cancel out his negatives...not even close. I didn't watch much Lonergan but what I remember was enough that if I were JB I'd seriously consider putting him ahead of Chatman in the rotation.
Does anyone do UFR's anymore for basketball?

Too many spoiled fans, Beilein is a fine coach. We as fans were just blessed with the abundance of hidden that emerged all at once in the last couple of years. That tallent is now getting payed to play ball in the NBA and abroad. It been a rough year with injuries and lack of time for Beilein to coach up his guys. The ship is not sinking. It just mearly needed to slow dow for some repairs.

This won't be popular or politically correct - and I love the kid as much as the next guy - but when is Beilein going to be brutally honest and admit that Austin Hatch needs to be moved to medical scholarship after the season? I'm really happy he has been part of the team and achieved his dream of playing at U-M after the amount of tragedy he's been through in his young life, but basketball only has 1 available athletic scholarship for next year. Stand by Austin with a medical scholarship so he can complete his education - make him a manager or something so he is still with the team - but going forward we need that athletic scholarship for someone who will be able to regularly play at a high level. I am not a hater: I wish Austin nothing but the best.

Lack of available scholarships has never been a problem for us. Many years we have less than 13 scholarship players on the roster or we use the last ones to bring in backup players. Hatch's spot is not a problem. Plus, Beilein thinks that Hatch in contributing plenty to the team.

and the haters come out...jeez. I guess once JB got us to multiple NCAA tournaments, and on the brink of winning the title....people expected that every year. This stuff pisses me off.

So close, but we get careless at points and we pay for it. I don't know what happens in overtime but this is the second time we basically haven't scored and are down by 10pts before we know it.
To sum it up, we've had it good for a few years and now this team is going through growing pains. We'll be back again.

Efforts like this always up being rewarded. The home court is usually the difference. We will win on Tuesday.

Well, the first 35 minute were rather fun to watch. We must be one of the worst overtime teams in history, three blowouts in a row.
