With Harbaugh, how does our recruiting class round out?

Submitted by m goblue on

I think it is fairly safe to assume Harbaugh is coming to Michigan.  My question to the Mgoblaugh community is what will happen to our recruiting class now that we have Harbaugh?

I've read that Chris Clark and Rosen will now be very ineterested in Michigan.  Who else has mentioned that Harbaugh would be a game changer for them?

Do you think any of our decommits will give michigan another look?

I had the pleasure of coaching against and witnessing Jim first hand while in the PAC-10. In my opinion what made him great was his ability to mix personnel packages better then anyone. As a staff we looked at his first couple Stanford classes and joked about WTF he was doing recruiting 4-6 TE's per recruiting class. We found out in a major way when he would put 1 RB, 3 TE's and 1 WR on the field and hammer our ass in a big set. Very next snap he would use the same personnel, come out in empty and gut you down the field against your heavy defense. It was a thing of beauty to watch. As a life long Michigan fan I am ecstatic to have him home!

Interesting take.

I wonder too, if he does not look at our classes the next two years and bases his priorities on that.  I know RB is important, but I think that is a position freshman can come in and play relatively easily compared to LB/OL/QB.

With Issac, Green and eventually D. Harris maybe he does not make it a priority. Given the small class (D. Smith should plan on adding 20 pounds because he is movin to FB)

I think OL is in good shape for the next two years, same with DL and CB's.

QB is #1 need at an order of magnitude of 10!!

DE is next, ideally with speed off the edge

S please,

Then WR, once again speed being important along with frickin hands

This does not mean he does not take OL/LB/RB, but if I was looking at roster, I would want to compete right away and next year he gets 17 - 20 recruits (depending on attrition) and he can really look at his OL/RB and others more in depth.

He has to be picky this year and he only has a few weeks. I do think C. Clark comes back and that is a big get.

I agree completely with QB being a huge priority, but unfortunately our starting QB for 2015 & probably 2016 is currently sitting on our roster (Morris). Starting true freshman at QB is an absolute disaster in almost all instances. I see Michigan recruiting one top 5-10 QB per class the next 3 years. Beyond that Harbaugh has always loved length. By recruiting 4-6 TE's each class and a ton of DE's he got athletic pieces that could become OT's and DT's. He also found great special team pieces. What I think will be really interesting is if he uses this philosophy at Michigan. At Stanford he had to be more creative to get the right pieces in place. With the prestige of Michigan he probably will not have to be as creative, but will that be better?

Kaaya and DeShaun Watson seemed to do alright this year. Not saying it's the norm, just that it's happening more often. Hopefully Speight or Morris can be the real deal, but I wouldn't count Malzone out of the QB battle, especially if he is early enrolling. Forcier wasnt too bad in his true freshman year, not great, but servicable.

Believe me I have huge doubt's about Morris, but he is the best we will have for the next two years. Harbaugh made A. Smith serviceable and I think/hope he can with Morris or Speight. On Frosh Qb's, Forcier was horrendous but had just enough moxy to eek a couple wins out. Chad H. was one of the anomalies. Remember how awful Drew was as a Frosh? He had more talent then any true freshman QB I can recall at Mich. My hope is Harbaugh can develop Morris into an adequate game manager like Sark has done with Kessler at USC. If he can do that we can get back to 9 & 10 win seasons the next two years and hand the keys to the throne to a groomed stud QB in 2017.

This next month leading up to signing day is going to be very exciting. The energy Harbaugh brings will suck the big fishes in. Kids want to play for a winner and Harbaugh is like a rock star to these kids.
