Caris #18 in 2015 per Draft Express.

He's pretty dangerous on the run, amongst other situations. Hopefully he added some muscle in the offseason.

I'll drop this right here...

I think he ends up in the lottery. Time for another player to take the Beilein Leap.

I saw him as high as #7 in one of the site's (way too early) 2015 draft board last April but that was probably before a few of the early entry 2014 kids decided to stay another year in school.
I see Caris as a poor man's Victor Oladipo. Not as good defensively as Oldadipo but like Wade and Oldadipo and a few other players he is just around the ball at key points in the game in non shooting situations i.e. that block of the TN forward late in the game, the rebound vs OSU in the Big 10 tourney etc. Those are little basketball plays that only so many guys make. Will be curious how the new strength and weight helps him later in the season and in the lane. His issue is going to be stamina over a 82 game season in the NBA with his build, but Prince has basically the same body type and had a solid NBA career.
#13-#18 makes sense depending on how much he has expanded his game offensively. And he does need to improve his perimeter defense - despite being labeled as a defensive "whiz" that is only in relation to most of our other perimeter players who are... well lax at defense.
As I wrote this the other guy I think of him like is a taller Jason Terry who has had an excellent career as a NBA "all time" 6th man. Terry is a very good offensive player so not putting him in his echelon but he and Oladipo are 2 guys I could see Caris trying to build his game similar to as he moves to the NBA.

has Caris at 6th and has had him up in the top 10 for a while now, that may have been the site where you saw him at 7th.

He really is built like a slightly smaller Durant. If can become anywhere as consistent to the reigning NBA MVP he could be a truely awesome pro.

I think Beilein is a good bit better than Red frankly. No one does more with the players he has than Beilein. Red's had so many teams that are ridiculously talented on paper not amount to much

Men's Gymnastics dynasty builder. . . .

Before too long, we'll need to throw Kevin Sullivan in there. What he's doing with men's and women's XC is legitimately unbelievable. The performance he's getting out of these kids is absolutely incredible.

Kevin Sullivan has only been here for a few months. Things look great so far, but that a large portion of that has to be attributed to Gibby's training. There's definitely the potential for him to be a great coach, but to say what he's already done is unbelievable is a huge overstatement. Gibby coached the xc teams to be national contenders, but a coaching change was needed because there were only 2-3 guys who had broken 4 minutes in the 1500m. Track championships are important, too.

Can we wait until Beilein wins a national championship before we hail him as one of the greatest Michigan coaches of all time?
October 8th, 2014 at 12:38 PM ^
Because Bo won so many national championships.....
October 8th, 2014 at 2:47 PM ^
Who said anything about Bo being Michigan's greatest coach?
October 8th, 2014 at 3:34 PM ^
You said "let's wait until Beilein wins a national championship before naming him one of the greatest coaches of all time"
I brought up Bo because most people would consider him one of the greatest Michigan coaches of all time, and he never won a title.
So essentially you're saying Bo didn't have to win a title to be considered one of the best but Beilein does.

I didn't say Bo was one of the greatest coaches and the original post only mentioned Red and Yost. You are saying that because most people would consider Bo one of the greatest coaches so then I must agree he is one of the greatest coaches?

If only we didn't lose any of our recent great players to the damned NBA, M would be nasty this season. I think they will still be good, though, just not as good as last season.

Hoping Walton and Irvin can make that jump too. If they can, we will once again have a very dangerous back court.

Not sure why the guy at Draft Express didn't clip anything from B1G play. Arguably the best competition he faced was in conference, and he showed growth over that span from the non-conference clips in the video. In particular I noticed how he was much better at shot selection near the end of the season vs the start.

Has basketball started yet?

I had the chance to talk to Leverts mom and Irvins grandfather. Levert is gone after this year. His mom was adamant that his education was important but the prospect of the NBA contract was too big for him to turn down if he has a good year. Irvin's grandfather was more coy and said if he has a great year like they expect he will, he will most likely be gone as well.

Makes sense on Caris and I think he'll end up in the lottery as other's have said. More power to him. His all-around game translates very well to the next level - and he's a legit 6'7" SG.
Even if Irvin averages 20 ppg this year, I don't see him as a first rounder (with the caveat of a possible weak class this year). Until we see otherwise against top competition, he's too one-dimesional right now to leave early. He could have a LONG career in the NBA as a spot up shooter and plus to great wing defender, but to be a first rounder as an early entry, he needs to show more playmaking ability. I would love to be proved wrong, btw.

I don't follow much of your logic.
Levert and Irvin are the same age, so why would age be a reason to go pro for Irvin and not for Levert? Also, if Levert was a guaranteed lottery pick, it would be bad to come back for his senior year as he would be leaving a lot of money on the table. Unless he grows another two inches or develops TMac athleticism, he's not going to creep much higher.
Irvin, on the other hand, could work his way into a mid-first round grade by coming back and proving he can be "the guy" and add some playmaking to his offensive game (that is something that can come with more time in Beilein's system).
Also, Irvin is 6'6" with great length for a SG, that won't be what holds him back. Comparing him to Levert who is tall for a SG and has freakish length isn't fair.
