Jashon Cornell names MSU leader
the Cornell University Big Red hasn't recruited him. Seems to me to be a no-brainer.
Seriously, though, even though he supposedly just named MSU his favorite, this one is far from over. Michigan probably won't get him, but a total of 6 schools are listed as "warm" on the 247 list, including Ole Miss. "Bag Man" might eventually clinch it for them.
Lots of mopey folks salivating over anything that could possibly be bad news. What else would you expect from some of our "fans" on this site?
For years I really disliked many of the negative ones.
Then -48 happened. Followed by running the ball two times in the row in the 4th quarter against Nebraska. And then the restuarant bowl happened where the players pretty much admitted they didn't give a damn.
Last year broke my spirit and I fear anything Football now. Only the team can erase my fears.
Close. 19 in July!

So you're 18 3/4? If you're young enough to be thinking of your age in terms of fractions, you're too young to be that negative.
No offense but you're a pussy.
I know. I have been my whole life.
I just feel like this now-
Dantonio is such an overrated coach, it's not even funny. I'll give him the development of Dennard (who I think will be a great NFL Corner), but even then, their "great defense" with 2-3* gets away with so much crap during games.
They lost a 4 year starter and their heart and QB on defense and the backup who was a walkon came in and was named Rose Bowl MVP. Comon, give him credit.

To be fair, that former walk-on was a fifth-year senior and had played in every game for three years. It isn't like he grabbed some dude off the street.
If Dantonio gets credit for being an amazing coach based on the success of Ellsworth, what does that make Hoke for the success of Kovacs?
That might be taking it a little far.
So what does that say about our coaching staff then?

I know in response I'll just get called a clost sparty because that's how the world of tough internet guys works but the idea that the only reason they are a force on defense is because they cheat is beyond ridiculous. Coaches areamongst the most competitive people in the world. If MSU's schemes and defenders weren't elite and it was just clutching and grabbing every other school would be doing this. It's like the people that try to say Beilein and company aren't elite and we just jack 3s, Give credit to coaches who are elite at what they do. It's embarrassing to try to make excuses instead of tipping your hat.
April 27th, 2014 at 11:44 PM ^
The denial is strong with this one (and the 4 who agreed with him). He has done the EXACT same thing Beilein has done for UM basketball - taken a program out of the sewer, with mostly non 5 stars, built a system, has assistants who build players up in excess of their starz, and built an air of confidence in a program that was lost.
In fact you sound like the MSU peeps who say "Beilein is so overrated - all he does is have his dudes chuck up 3s all day - they play a gadget offense and anytime they miss 3s they are so beatable... and they get away with so much crap during a game, how come we get so many foul calls and they don't get any. Oh yeah Delaney!"
I also love the people who call out the 7-6 season where they had a tire fire offense outside of a RB and an elite defense. Their last 4 years are 11-2, 11-3, 7-6, 13-1. Can you pick out the outlier? Versus 7-6, 11-2, 8-5, 7-6. There are people who would worship at the feet of Hoke for 20 years if he had a 4 year stretch like that now.
So our three shit seasons were not an outlier, but their 3 11+ win seasons were. Ok makes sense. Get used to it - MSU is going nowhere and has raised the bar big time. Just as Beilein has in bball. MSU bball fans and UM football fans waiting for their opponents to "fall apart" are going to be waiting a long time i.e. the time when each coach retires. MSU will be favored in every game this year save @Oregon and is a likely double digit win team yet again. But yeah wait until next year - that's the year it all falls apart.
Proceed to downvote and wake me up when someone who is not part of the UM fanbase actually believes UM can go into Sparty stadium with more than a druken puncher's chance to win in any year. Hopefully it is 2016 but we have a lot of way to go - MSU was the best team we played last year and it wasn't close.
May not end up at MSU,He'd be an idiot to go there.
im sure this kid is talented and hell have a solid career but theres no way he shouldve been listed at #1 in the nation, at any time or by any service. he does not jump out at you the way #1 prospects should. so wouldnt be the biggest loss ever. but still um needs help at DE desparately. and this kid is pretty talented and from the midwest so in that sense itd be a big loss. but hopefully the coaches reel in 1-2 elite pass rushers or better yet, develop some of their current players into pass rushers
to commit to U of M, why do you say "...but still um needs help at DE desparately. and this kid is pretty talented and from the midwest so in that sense itd be a big loss." ??
Truth be told, he's from St. Paul, Minnesota. I think he's a much bigger "loss" for that UM than for our U of M. He literally is just across town from the Gophers, yet is showing no love at all for the hometown team, a school that desperately could use an infusion of that level of talent.
Michigan will go after someone else if, as seems likely, Cornell doesn't commit to the Wolverines. Minnesota, OTOH, doesn't get many chances to land top talent.

Let's just hope he doesn't become another Lawrence Thomas. Then we'd really be screwed.
A fullback?
April 28th, 2014 at 12:49 AM ^
Apparently, he was at a party, peed off a deck and "broke team rules".
Now, if you believe that I've got some ski masks I could sell you.

To continue this obsession with State. Recent draft picks performance:
- Jerel Worthy played 2 games for Green Bay in 2013 and recorded 1 tackle.
- William Gholston played 12 games for Tampa Bay in 2013 and recorded 14 tackles and 2 sacks.
- Greg Jones didn't play in 2013 (injury?) and signed with the Toronto Argonauts for the 2014 seaons.
- Johnny Adams played 4 games for Oakland with no stats recorded in 2013.
- Trenton Robinson played 11 games for the Redskins and recorded 10 tackles.

So second year player with no meaningful impact, rookie with an Okay season on a bad team, bust, undrafted UFA didn't contribute much -- shocker, another undrafted UFA with a hit or miss career -- shocker.
Logical conclusion is of course steroids.

Fuck MSU
Eventually coaches who have the "I hate me and everyone around me" look on their face have a schematic advantage...
MSU has really capitalized on the past lull in our program. However, that also makes for more intense games, not ones where M is heavily heavily favored. While I would like to see them smacked down with great regularity, it also hints at the overall increasing level of competition in the B1G. Its not the Big 2 and Little 8 anymore...
...or do you mean "evidently"?
So is this the new normal?
every time a prospect that showed any interest in Michigan names another school leader, immediately after a visit?

"for whatever reason"
Did you watch last year's 2 teams and compare?
McDowell the same went hot and heavy to MSU in November per his camp. What happened in November? Oh yeah MSU was accelerating to a BTCG, beat OSU, and won a Rose Bowl. Their defense was putting the icing on a dominant 4 year stretch where they finished top 10 every year and they were showcasing a 1st round corner, and a 2015 1st round DE in Calhoun. The same position McDowell (and Cornell) play.
Meanwhile, UM was playing patty cakes with PSU, NW, Indiana before waking up for 1 game vs our arch rival, finishing 8th in a shit conference behind a team (PSU) on sanctions with scholarship reductions... and on its way to getting bitch slapped by Snyder. ... with almost no defensive line pressure. Peppers soon was rumored to be looking around, at which time, our AD had to write a public blog post saying "dude, no one moved our cheese!"
Funny, Hand drifted away from us at the same time. And Campbell and Harris decommitted shortly after.
I mean, what could be the common thread for these? Oh yes - watching the football teams on the field. "For whatever reason" is very obvious for those who keep their head above dirt level.
Big deal. One player doesn't make a team. Get over it already.
