[LOCKED] OT: Kaepernick/Reid settle with NFL

Submitted by donjohn64 on February 15th, 2019 at 4:17 PM

I'm guessing this is what the two 'Football' posts earlier today were intended to discuss....

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26004715/colin-kaepernick-eric-reid-settle-grievance-case-nfl

Sorry it's WWL link. TL;DR version - Kaepernick and Reid settled with the NFL, neither is allowed to discuss the matter any further, so we don't know and probably won't find out what kind of settlement (MGoLawyers?).

Also, I'm guessing that this is going to get locked due to unreasonable discourse. C'est la vie.

[edit: mgowill] Well this turned out pretty terrible. I've noted some of the worst posts and will be banning accounts. Let's try not to do this again folks.

Uh, dickhead, he only made the donation because he knew he looked like an asshole.  Can you actually think?  Or did your college professors do it for you?

And, since you're calling me old, tell me your age.  I'm 38.

You criticize him for having millions, but then insinuate that being a grandparent at age 38 is an issue in “his neck of the woods.” So is he a spoiled millionaire? Or a ghetto “thug”? Seems like you have a problem with him whether he is part of the haves or have-nots. So maybe there is something else about him that you don’t like? Wonder what it might be?

Hahahaha first the complaint is "he isn't using his millions" and then it's "well he's only doing it cuz he looked like an asshole"

Nah you idiot. The 1 week after he got noticed by the media he put his money where his mouth is since people were then criticizing him for the same shit you just got punked on.

No matter what Kaep does, you will hate him. It's okay to be wrong and ignorant. Just admit it.

38? Well that explains the lack of computing and Google knowledge. Still stuck in analog I guess.

Ahh there it is... the thinly veiled racism about minorities and early childbirth etc.

I feel sorry for your daughter. Your wife should have swallowed.

Cant admit when you're wrong?   Can't admit this selfish asshole didn't do shit for the "people" he "cares" about until he was a national disgrace?  Can't admit this pig sock wearing prick is a phony?  Sucks to be you.

38 is too old to use Google?  Insulting my children?

You're on the same level as Kap.  No wonder you support him?

Even if it was selfish and an asshole move, guess what? It still helped marginalized people and brought attention to a cause. Why do you hate that?

What’s your beef buddy? Somebody protesting in a way you don’t like? The biases in policing are real. Kaepernick made it even more of a national dialogue. What’s wrong with that?

Just admit you didn’t do your research and now you’re backtracking to “I hate him bc he hates cops” and got nothing else.

Calling cops pigs ain’t just a saying from Kaep either buddy. Stiffen that upper lip. It’s the Internet. Your ego will be okay.

Show me one "marginalized" person it helped.  One.  Oh, that's right, you can't.

My beef?  Disrespecting this country and the people who died for it, like several of my family members? Disrespecting law enforcement?

No matter how you try to frame it, the pig socks shows he is a cop hating asshole.  But, if, heaven forbid, hes he victim of a home invasion, or his wife is assaulted, who will he call?  THE COPS.

Standing up for Kap like hes some kind of hero makes no sense.  Hes not worthy.

Again Google is your friend. Names and everything.

"Disrespecting this country and the people who died for it, like several of my family members? "

Got em!

Debate over.

You realize a Green Beret, Nate Boyer, was the one who told Kaep to kneel correct? It was the respectful way to protest in his eyes.

So can we stop this now? I've exposed and broken down your argument to the fact that you are too emotional and are missing the forest for the trees.

How many times do I have to keep beating you over the head for you to understand this point? You and your family are not entitled to how the flag should be treated. Kaep is just as American as you and can do whatever the fuck he wants along with all other protesting minorities who are citizens of this country. Deal with it.

You haven't done anything, dumbass.

Kap didn't make any donations or public stink until he realized what a dickhead he was.  He's a phony who wears pig socks.  You are sticking up for an asshole.

All you've done is make yourself look like a buffoon by sticking up for him.

Kaep is an asshole wearing pig socks... okay so what?

He didn't donate until he felt like a dickhead... you got mindreading abilities you wanna lend me?

My family died for this country... missed the point but cool flex

He offended the flag... Green Beret okay'd him kneeling as respect but k still missed the point

He didn't actually help marginalized people... SI and SB articles prove you wrong

I'm 38 and an emotional toddler raising another toddler... Oh god.

Yeah, hes an asshole, just like I said.  Thanks for agreeing with me.   Which is my whole point.  Hes a jerk, not a hero.

So what if one green beret thought it was a good idea?  If I showed you 10000 veterans who didn't think it was wise it would mean hes wrong, right?

Those articles dont prove me wrong in the slightest.

TheCube

Actually he can be an asshole and a hero at the same time. It isn't a zero sum game. Sorry buddy.

Yeah and I can probably show you a fuck ton of vets who disagree with your vets. It's not a monolithic group of people. And who made you the voice of veterans? You didn't serve. Quit acting like you did.

Be honest, you didn't read the articles. They show he donated which you denied (and then changed to "he only did it for pr"), they show he helped actual people which you also denied.

At the end of the day, a pair of socks are offending you. Snowflake.

I think it's you who dont understand.  Those of us whose loved ones have died to protect YOU absolutely have a say in how the flag is treated.

Kap can do whatever he wants, that doesn't mean hes not an asshole, and he is.

Hes a goddamn millionaire who got paid to behave this way, he deserves no empathy.

I was unaware that the military was some monolithic entity. Someone tell Nate Boyer. He must be un-American now or the other guy in this thread who served in the Navy.

I honestly don't care if Kaep is an asshole at this point. All I care about his is message and the fact that the NFL's jingoistic government-tax funded flag military recruiting promotion has been exposed for the sham it is.

Are you offended by all the people who leave their hats on during the anthem?    Don’t take a moment yo reflect on all of the things the flag stands for during the anthem?

To me it is the very definition of patriotic to be able to look at our country and to say while there is a great deal about it that is amazing there are still many times it falls short of the ideals it was founded for.   Taking it a step further amd trying to bring attention to those things seems even more patriotic,

“Can’t we all just get along”.  Rodney King.

This country could use some serious healing.  Maybe it’s like building muscle.  Break it down some and you build it stronger.   Don’t break it down to atrophy though.

irony: rodney king's next arrest after the riots came across my desk.  it was only a DUI, but man, talk about a hot potato.  yeesh. i had lost half my unit to help out at the riots and had been in trial right up until the start of the riots.  i will not forget that rather unique time of my life.

I remember now reading on the blog you were in LA back then.  It must have been pretty overwhelming.

At the end of the day I believe the vast majority of the people all want the same thing.  Emotions are a tricky thing.

I always try to put myself in other peoples shoes.  It doesn’t usually change my position but it takes the hard edge off and offers perspective.

Actually back in the 90s Michigan Admissions dept practiced a form of reverse racism that had since been outlawed by the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative. So ya, as much as I love this University, liberals were running the show. So I'm not surprised that we're get heavy liberal lean here.

Full disclosure: I'm a conservative, white male, who relocated to Indiana from Michigan. Stereotype away.
