Sorry it's WWL link. TL;DR version - Kaepernick and Reid settled with the NFL, neither is allowed to discuss the matter any further, so we don't know and probably won't find out what kind of settlement (MGoLawyers?).

 

Also, I'm guessing that this is going to get locked due to unreasonable discourse. C'est la vie.

If Kap really wants to draw attention to his cause, he should draw the prophet Mohammed kneeling during the national anthem - now THAT would jump start the equality train and probably end police brutality aimed at minorities in one fell swoop.

Let me sum it up from my intellectual pedestal because I'm egocentric me and you're not me and thus I must be right.

Different Americans hold different values. 

Group 1 values the Anthem and the Flag as just a song and a cloth.  These view kneeling as a benign form of protest.  

Group 2 sees those symbols as cherished near on par with parents and family - defining what those people stand for.  To them, kneeling is deeply offensive, and those who diminish the value of the flag or the Anthem are unpatriotic.

Notice that the word "race" has yet to be mentioned.  I doubt there is any evidence that Group 1 or 2 are any more racist than the other.  Most people cherish their mother and father.  Some people don't.  That's just reality.  I doubt there's any evidence that those who cherish their parents more are any more racist than those who don't.

Group 1 is thus totally cool with his protest.

Group 2 are no more racist or unsympathetic to Kaepernick's platform than Group 1, but they are more offended and wonder why he couldn't choose a different form of protest.  Group 2 comprises all races and ethnicities, and includes African Americans like Warren Moon, Jim Brown and Jason Whitlock.  Group 2's message is akin to "Hey man, can't there be something more productive we could do to work toward a solution than having you offend people who are no more racist but just happen to honor the flag and Anthem more than others?"

Group 1's response?  "He's justified because it drew national attention to the issue."

Group 2's response back? "The same could be said of someone walking around sticking a middle finger in the face of everyone's mother to raise awareness.  You don't see kneeling as equivalent, but that is just you projecting your own value set about the Anthem/flag onto mine, neither of which have anything to do with racism."  

My personal conclusion:

What separates Kaepernick from Ghandi, Ali and Rosa Parks is his form of protest offends millions who are not racist at all, and who are sympathetic to his cause.  Ghandi starving himself, Rosa Parks sitting on a bus, these acts did not offend sympathizers.

A just cause does not excuse critique of one's behavior or form of protest.  Conflating any such critique with racism is lazy and obtuse.

What separates Kaepernick from the others listed is that they had a legitimate cause. Kaepernick’s protest was based on the the false claim that policing in the USA is a racist institution, which impugned the integrity of every police officer in the country. Millions strongly disagreed with him. I’m sorry to hear they’re paying him anything.

This way the poor, working and middle classes will never join together and see who the true enemies are and gang up on them to gain actual freedom, justice, democracy, peace & security by ending the endless dictatorship of organized criminal oligarchs and trying out a government of, by & for the people for the very first time!

You seriously have to be willfully ignoring the overwhelming continuous evidence and documentation of racist policing across virtually every department over time. 

Furthermore it's racism overall he is protesting, in addition to police racism and killings.

You guys are such fucking hypocrites with your fake outrage against sparty, PED St. & OSU as you accuse various actors of enabling and complicity, so even if racist and criminal cops were in the minority, where are the whistle blowing good cops? When has there ever been another Serpico since Serpico even though the number of departments busted for racist, violent, railroading, corrupt and criminal policing has been endless ever since?
