This. Why in God's name give a team--any team--bulletin board material? Even if your opponent on a given day isn't the target, they're still going to know about it and they will send you to the second circle of hell every time you touch the ball and the 9th every time you make a mistake. The Midwesterner in me also finds it very, very tacky.

I know. It's great to be the favorite in these games and be a known team, but there is absolutely a chance we face Duke in the tourney. Why on Earth should we be giving Duke, a blue blood with the top 3 picks in the draft, bulletin board material?

I hope we don't play them for many reasons, but giving them a chip is just dumb. And backing that call-out up with a 0 point, several turnover, crucial intentional foul is just setting yourself up to be trolled incessantly.

I'm not him though and I don't play, so ultimately my opinion doesn't matter one bit lol but it just seems like a bad move to me.

This is what I hate about our fanbase. Same thing with the Karan Higdon quote where he took 5 seconds, smiled, then answered.

Guys on every team are asked these same questions by reporters. All the time. But it seems like our guys are the ones that don't answer in a different way and call out the team in question. What's wrong with "they're a good team, but we're focused on our next game. One game at a time" kind of answer? Note: I don't really care about the Karan answer. It's pretty innocuous. But to act like these kids are being baited into answers is just silly. Iggy could have easily redirected the question, but now the entire Duke team will be salivating if they draw us. And guess what? They will kick the shit out of us.

Our fanbase acts like it's impossible to think about an answer

Okay, so I'm feeling generous. Let's say you have X on the wing with his little quick point defender and then drop down to the corner and you have Ziggy. So if this is happening at the same time as the pick and roll setup at the top of the key with Poole and Teske, well this is like your plan B instead of just passing it off if things are executed at the top of the key. So you've already pulled the defensive center to the top of the key with Teske and now there is no one under the hoop. You have the other four defenders on the perimeter players outside the arc. Why the fuck is not one of your prolific scorers posting up or attacking the rim in those situations. I'll tell you why. It's because of spacing. Have to maintain that supid spacing until you lose the next game. Then the game after that and the game after that. Fuck that shit. You have X screen down to Ziggy's man and hopefully get the switch allowing Ziggy to slip down to the block to post up for the mismatch. If they don't switch and Ziggy's defender sticks to him, if X has a good screen, well then there is your wide open jumper from the wing. If that defenders tries to deny the pass, Ziggy slips back door for the wide open layup. If that doesn't work and Ziggy gets the pass on the wing, well then you start your set there and X would've now ran baseline to the opposite corner and there you have it. A fucking wide open half of the arc for one of your best scorers with the ball in his hands already. If this fails you would still have Teske and Poole at the top of the key from 3 seconds ago and they could be screening for one another trying to create that mismatch now and get Teske down in the post with a guard on him. That's too much to keep typing. I'm just saying, there are so many things that could be done in this offense that aren't. I do see teams attempt it at times. Where they always fail it seems is that the player that the screen is being set for doesn't wait for the screen or make the correct choice once the defender has reacted. It's just like pick and roll with the ball. You have to wait for the screen to read the defender. This is key and if implemented with some thought, it will create mismatches and wide open looks all over the court. What more can you ask for?

Nah, I’ll think I’ll defer the college coach who’s been a head coach for 40+ years and been to two National Championship games.  Pretty sure he’ll figure it out.

I'm sure there will be at least 3 or 4 more loses this season. Probably 2 on the road and may be one at home. I just  hope the shooting percentage improves as we head towards tournament time.

Can someone point me to the phantom anti-Beilein comments? Ya'll are really jumping the gun on the "omg Michigan fans are so spoiled, look at them complain after their first loss in 18 games".

This game happened a long time ago. We all knew it was inevitable that Iggy would have an off night and the rest of the offense would play sloppy and fail to get hot from three. Honestly I still don't get why Beilein thinks the autobench is worth it, but it seems to be the one thing he doesn't want to toy with. Way too much sloppy play to win at the Trohl center. I know it doesn't really work like this, but I'll just tell myself they're getting it out of their system before the backloaded last two weeks of their schedule.

We just don't match up well against Wisconsin. Wisky's style of slowing down the game and forcing the opponent into a slugfest is the closest thing to kryptonite for Beilein.

But on the whole, I'm okay with this loss. If Iggy doesn't struggle so mightily, we win. It was on the road against an unranked team. I would like to defeat all ranked teams and all rivals. We're still on track to doing that.

Meh. I’d bet it proves to be a “good” loss for UM.  Ftr, a “#1ranking” especially in January - means exactly nothing in basketball.

Its unreal how many of your fans and now even a player kept talking about that. Probably good timing for a slice of humble pie for the Canadian.

It will be MSU-UM for both the conference titles and nobody else should prove close

I would wager somewhere deep down B___ is glad this first loss happened now

He will re-light some fires that need attention

In order to be a great team we need 2/3 of Poole, Matthews, and Iggy to play good each game

Today none of them played good. Poole had some points but it wasn't on great shooting and he had at least 3 TO.

Lately all 3 of them have been wildly inconsistent. You never know if youre gonna get 15pts Matthews or 4pts Matthews. You never know if youre gonna get Driving Iggy dropping 20 or wanna be 3pt shooting Iggy. You never know if Poole has overdosed on swag or if he left his swag at home.

We need some consistency from our 3 scorers
