Should UM skip bowl games?

The general sentiment on the board even before the Peach Bowl seemed to be that this was a meaningless game.  I think some players on the team played like it was a meaningless game.

If the B1G allows teams to skip, should UM skip non-CFP, non-Rose bowl games?

Does your calculus change if Michigan beats OSU, wins the B1G, but doesn't go to the CFP or Rose?

I did a little research, but I haven't found whether the B1G has to weigh in on this decision or not.

I think we should work out a deal with ND where if both teams aren't going to the playoffs or a NY6 bowl, we play our own bowl against each other.  Alternate it between Ann Arbor and South Bend.

That bowl would sell out and people would watch the hell out of it on TV, even if both teams were mediocre to crap that year.

Figure this "nerd bowl" would happen a few times each decade and then we don't have to play them during the regular season anymore.

It's not a matter of the conference letting a team skip a bowl game--the school can just elect not to take the bid. OSU did it with a Rose Bowl in the 50s, ND has done it, other schools have recently done so for lesser-tier bowl games with pitiful payouts that would end up costing them money just to go...

But it's dumb as a matter of blanket policy. And this is dumb.

not a bad idea -- if Michigan is not in the CFP or the Rose Bowl -- we decline the invitation --for a number of reasons, even though we lose the practices & the dough --

1/ As long as we beat OSU in the last regular season game -- we insure that we win our last game of the season

2/ since we are skipping the bowl --all the players who want to save their bodies & health for NFL or the future, will not have to opt out - as the team has opted out--The TEAM

3/ do this at least once, in memory of what the Big 10 did to us in 1973

4/ at seasons end -- instead of the usual dinner -- have something much bigger -- schedule it in December at Ford Field -- charge fans $50.00 each to attend --open the concession stands & make money from attendance & concessions -- introduce the whole team, one by one & then give out the awards -- invite back as many of the old players as possible & introduce them --show a highlight video of the whole season (at least the wins) bring in the Michigan Marching Band to do a halftime show not limited by the clock, sing Hail To the Yellow and Blue & other forgotten tunes -- have Carl Grapentine narrate,  & also do the announcing for the event -maybe even bring in the great grandson of Whisky to roll the ball across the field again ---have the whole thing televised on BTN or FS1 --split all the revenues with the B1G --

and as a finale -- viewer advisory -- have the whole team moon Delaney --

Michigan certainly skipped this years.

In a bowl pool and didn't do my typical holiday travel this year so I watched more bowl games than I have in the past.  Anyone who says these are meaningless games needs to tell that to the players on the teams playing.  I saw the exact opposite.  These games meant a lot to those guys in even the most far flung weedwacker whatever bowl.  I can name about 10 Michigan players that seemed like they gave a shit, and that is a very sad statement.  Doesn't appear any of the coaches gave a shit.

This is fucking stupid.  No we shouldn't skip bowl games. You are literally arguing that we have too much Michigan football.  That is just dumb.  Your main logic flaw was assuming the "general sentiment on the board" was representative of real world.  It is not.  This place is overly negative, overly reactionary, overly self righteous and mostly just wrong.  90% of this board thinks they could coach football better than the staff at every school in the country.
