He ran spread at IU the last two years dumb ass
December 30th, 2018 at 11:45 PM ^
I really couldn’t care less what he ran at IU the last two years, dumbfuck
December 31st, 2018 at 12:25 PM ^
That's some brilliant analysis, right there.

You’re just a real joy aren’t you? I don’t think I’ve seen you post anything without insulting someone. You seem like a miserable fuck.
December 31st, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
DeBord has been completely away from the program for a decade. Ironically, you seem to be saying Debord is living in the past from a football Xs and Os standpoint, and yet you still care what happens to him 10 years after he has been away from the program. Hopefully his retirement will allow you to move on with your life.

Carved us up...
December 31st, 2018 at 9:41 AM ^
No. He didn't.
December 30th, 2018 at 9:53 PM ^
He out smarted King Brown
December 30th, 2018 at 10:16 PM ^
....you mean Don King Brown, has a nice ring to it!
December 30th, 2018 at 10:19 PM ^
You mean for a half, right? How many points did Indiana get in 2nd half this year?
I'm sure you have quite the background to sneer at Coach Brown.

Big whoop. Join the club
December 30th, 2018 at 10:21 PM ^
Happy retirement Mike!
December 30th, 2018 at 10:24 PM ^
Michigan needs to run the varsity blues oopdie fuckin oop offense.
black, dpj, bell on one side.
collins on the other.
Can still run with Patterson as the middle and one side should be open.
This formation should be ran 20+ times a game....mix in the TE passes and power running along with it. BUT SHAKE IT UP so it’s not damn predictable.
Ill take 1 million dollars a year and draw up some stuff!!!
December 30th, 2018 at 10:54 PM ^
Yep. Great plan. Five yard penalty every time.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:18 PM ^
Gets more yards then Michigan does now.
January 9th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
Too many men on the field. How about a recount?
December 30th, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
And it’s not a penalty on the formations if you put dpj on the line In the tight end spot for these formations. Still overloads the side. Empty backfield on these plays.
collins. Gentry. 5OL Dpj Bell black
Patterson
January 9th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
Oops. My bad. Read it to include a running back.
December 31st, 2018 at 12:28 AM ^
Not really. Collins is on the line along with one receiver on the trips side.
December 31st, 2018 at 12:24 AM ^
So running that formation 20+ times a game won't be predictable? Are you saying to run a lot of different plays out of that formation?
I kind of like it, but can we get a lot of RPO with it? I still want to see 12 and 22 personnel as well.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
We will only run one play for the first 11 games, then just shove our heads up our asses for The Game. Sound about right?
December 31st, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
Sounds right. Will score on a 40 yard td and then never see it again.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:16 AM ^
Run a lot of slants. Posts. 1 on 1 with Collins.
yes hopefully the o line can block for long enough to have Patterson throw.
so many weapons to throw to.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:18 AM ^
I think with a lot of the defensive backs needing to be spread to cover wr and linebackers needing to look out for dpj and Gentry would create running for Patterson up the middle.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:44 AM ^
You forgot the part where the offensive line has to block. That didn't happen against Florida or OSU.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:26 PM ^
Totally unrelated thread jack..
Bruce Feldman, of theathletic.com, mentions Manny Diaz will be a focus for Miami's new head coach. We know Temple hired him.. Think this will cause a domino effect if Diaz jumps back to Miami?
December 30th, 2018 at 10:33 PM ^
We'll always have his super-secret bowl-game-only playbooks.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:27 AM ^
You stole my thunder here....
A fair number of my DeBord memories are shouting, "WHERE THE FUCK WAS THAT ALL YEAR, MIKE?"
December 31st, 2018 at 9:15 AM ^
I really wish that Harbaugh had the Al Borges OSU Only Playbook, and the Mike DeBord Bowl Game Only Playbook.
Instead, we get the Harbaugh-Hamilton Huh Well I Guess That Really Was All There Is To Our Offense Playbook...
December 30th, 2018 at 11:02 PM ^
Seems to me he retired ten years ago, he just continued to get a paycheck.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:18 PM ^
Showed urbs how to scorch Brown

I suspect Ryan Day already knew.
Haskins was "licking his chops."

The idea that Debord was terrible is one of my least favorite of Brian's opinions. Now I completely understand the game has passed him by, that he was a bad head coach and that he failed to adapt late in his career. But look at the numbers below, Mike Debord was an excellent offensive coordinator at Michigan.
Lloyd Carr coached for 13 years:
His record without Debord as OC was 70-29, which is a 70.7 winning percentage(8 years)
His record with Debord as OC was 52-9, which is an 85.2 winning percentage(5 years)
That's a 15% difference between having Debord or having someone else.
As a comparison look at the following:
Urban Meyer won 83% of his games with Dan Mullen as his OC
Pete Carroll won 82.8% of his games with Norm Chow as his OC
So statistically speaking, Lloyd Carr with Debord as OC had a better record than Meyer with Mullen or Carroll with Chow.
Again, he had his shortcomings but I strongly disagree with anyone who says Debord was terrible as an OC at Michigan.

I cosign this post.
Everyone on MGoBlog has had some strange obsession with Mike Debord. I've never understood it. Even if he was an average coach (which is probably true, but could be debated), he has been gone for so long that constantly bringing up his latest career move, especially when it can be spun as a negative career move, is just stupid and petty. Get over it, people. Time to move on.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
I beg your apartment Lord X Brand.....
Quit lumping EVERYONE into one false statement.
I speak for many others who do not have a strange obsession with Mike Debord.
You are confusing us with those that loved Frank Deford who died last year in Key West and was a good writer on some days.
Carry on.
Move on.
