The offense struggle s for every yard it gains. It looks pained and labored.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
Pep probably should be left in Atlanta, and we really need to at least have the ability to run some tempo.
Nico, DPJ, and Tarik aren’t on the field at the same time enough (at all?).
To my untrained eye it really looks like we are consciously trying to squander the talent we have on offense.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
It's clear he needs to hire an offensive coordinator that can match those of Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, etc. Harbaugh as evolved every season, and this is the next step, or he won't last another season here.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
That was brutal to watch. Absolutely archaic offense. So predictable it's just depressing that this is what we will see again next fall
December 29th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
There was no play* in this game where things were created by misdirection. So it was required to be about execution. Which sounds familiar somehow.
*Maybe the counter play after the blocked punt, but the lead blocker (McKeon?) totally whiffed on his block and the play died.
We have an advantage with our WRs but don't know what to do with it. Things downfield take FOREVER and our tackles aren't good enough to hold up against elite rushers. The running game is just generally meh and not a threat.
Total debacle. Should cost Pep his job.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
McKeon is a joke . Seems to be a Rich Rod recruited played who still has eligibility somehow
December 29th, 2018 at 8:43 PM ^
It is completely laughable that McKeon is ever on the field.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
It's a high variance scheme. If there's arrogance on Harbaugh's part it's in being so cock sure that he can run it with Michigan's athletes, intelligence, and recruiting. Don't think there's any doubt that you can win with Harbaugh's scheme, but I don't think there's much doubt left that spread schemes are more forgiving. If he's not taking that next step now when will he take it? Next year doesn't necessarily look like it's the year on paper; but in terms of pressure on Manuel and Harbaugh it kinda has to be.
As we've seen, Harbaugh seems to be edging toward an offense that can go both directions, but that means more plays to learn. And so far it has yet to look really dynamic. Would have hoped that today served as an advertisement for a really fun offense next year; instead we got this. As I said in another thread, fans are ridiculous in their demands--often wildly undiscerning--but they do have a right to ask that the games be fun.
December 30th, 2018 at 1:09 PM ^
I love this take.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
Our offense lacks balls.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
I will be disappointed if Pep is let on the airplane
December 29th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
0 points in the second half from the offense, I'm not very knowledgeable but when they show replays of passing plays it looks like we constantly isolate our wide receivers and don't use the majority of the field making it easy to cover everyone.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
Michigan fans getting a nice taste of why Indy and Cleveland shit canned Pep Hamilton.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
MIchigan's passing game design is just terrible.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Shea is unfortunately too short. I’m so distraught thats about all I can come up with and I know it’s weak.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
HAWT TAKE here.....Shea is not that good. Does not belong in the NFL draft and I think he knows that. Rudock was the best qb under Harbaugh.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
Can’t argue with that. Rudock only got better.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
He seemed to get worse the last few games of the season .
December 29th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
I'd argue 2016 Speight was the best, but Shea is running third behind Speight '16/Rudock. I kinda wish we were headed into next season with McCaffrey in charge, but Shea's going to be the guy to beat.
December 30th, 2018 at 12:49 AM ^
I thought it was a mistake that Harbaugh went away from Speight... we seemed better with him.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:36 PM ^
The biggest mistake that Harbaugh has made was open the competition at QB instead of sticking with Speight who got them to 10 wins and NY6 bowl game. Instead, O'Korn and Peters are worse QBs and Harbaugh had to pare down the playbook big time. Speight gives Harbaugh more of a complete playbook because of his ability to command the offense. Speight never felt that he had the starting job on the lockdown and instead focused on trying to beat out both QBs instead of improving his game and watch more film from the season before.
That probably explained Speight's regression to begin the season before he got hurt.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
All I really have to say is that I would really like an OC and I would like for it to not be Pep Hamilton, and further, I would like for Jim Harbaugh to have minimal input at the play-to-play level. Candidates not into dinosaur ball control theories are welcome.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Here it is plain and simple. I am so FUCKING tired of hearing how complicated/complex this FUCKING vanilla ass offense is. A good high school dc could shut this shit down! Was on the fence about Harbaugh, not so much now. Way too much talent is being wasted away. Imagine what a good offensive mind could do with that kind of talent. Why in the hell a highly recruited rb, qb, wr would even consider going to UM is beyond me. I totally expect this same kind of shit to be trotted out on the field next year, if so, fire the overrated/overpaid genius that is Harbaugh. What a fucking joke!!!!
December 29th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
Harbaugh needs to relinquish play calling duties and Pep needs to be fired for someone who can bring us into the age of modern offenses. We have all the tools to be a great offense, stop playing ball control and start attacking.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
offensive line was a big disappointment. tackles cant pass protect. run plays are futile.
December 29th, 2018 at 8:21 PM ^
Very disappointed in the O line today. I would guess the UFR will only recognize Ruiz as tolerable. The tackles played well below expectations
December 30th, 2018 at 8:20 AM ^
Absolutely no intensity from the O line.
I watch Alabama and the O line scrums behind the back to push him forward for extra yards. Our guys whiff on their block and stand around watching as our back gets his ass kicked.
What a difference!
I have a hard time with a captain who quits on his team and can't be bothered to play in the bowl game (Bush & Higdon). Captains should not be allowed to sit out a bowl game! How in the hell was Winovitch not a captain all year? He comes back as a 5th year senior and plays his ass off every snap. He plays in the bowl game hurt, delaying surgery.
After seeing Hudson ranting on the sideline, I hope he is a captain next year. We need some fire and urgency on this team!
They cannot play through adversity and win a game.
Harbaugh needs to talk to Beilein on how to evolve with the game. Football is about unpredictability and exploiting your opponents weaknesses. Start out the game or half with a 2 minute offense while your defense is still fresh. Call 6-8 trick plays per game.
Harbaugh used to get more out of the offense. I can't say that the last 2 years.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Michigan Football: Warriors of practice and September.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Bright side, no worry about Patterson leaving early.
Other than that, Florida took care of business and UM did not.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Anytime you have the opportunity to run the ball 31 times for less than 2.5 ypc, you have to take it. No matter the score, you'll wear them out eventually.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
Now I understand what is meant by "body blow".
You punch yourself in the stomach 31 times.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
I've said it for 3 years.
Hire an OC you trust, and let him do his damn job.
The convoluted, cryptic, "committee" approach sucks.
No rhythm. No identity.
Control freaking the offense is the problem.
Hire a Don Brown of offense, and let the man do his fucking job.
Geez.
December 30th, 2018 at 12:15 AM ^
The Don Brown of offense is Rich Rod. Ran up huge numbers against bad teams, fell apart against good teams.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Not sold on Shea. Not sold on Harbaugh.
I realize that’s MGoBlasemphy but man, oh man, what a sport disappointment.
December 29th, 2018 at 11:42 PM ^
Pep needs to be gone. Jay needs to be gone. Harbaugh don’t do it, and he will eventually get fired.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:03 PM ^
I vote for the OC at Oklahoma state. Michigan needs some concepts that get guys open rather than having constant one on one matchups. I like Yarborough.
i follow James a light and space coyote, and I agree that Michigan needs to adjust quicker and be more multiple on defense.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:04 AM ^
There is a lot of talk that Yurcich will be the new OC at tOSU next year. He already has an offer from TN as well.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Not sure if Pep is the real problem, it's probably Harbaugh, but he's not the solution and Harbaugh isn't getting canned this year. Bye Pep, good luck in your career elsewhere.
Also, compare Florida to the Florida team we saw last year. The most embarrassing thing about today is that we actually thought it was a good idea to hire McElwain after his work there. Which is illustrative of why there is so little hope for meaningful change in the offensive approach.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:13 PM ^
Did anyone see them have to "console" Black for ten minutes because of the reversed TD, and the expression on his face...
December 29th, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
Yes.
And a pitiful display it was.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:16 PM ^
His last two "TDs" we called back. I'd be disappointed too.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:14 PM ^
Garbage need an OC and Jim you need some practice at clock management...get better at it
December 29th, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
Why did we get away from the QB run? We are best when the QB runs for at least 50 yards.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
This program has no coherent strategy right now ...
December 29th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
We ran a jet sweep on the first series and it nearly went for a TD. No wonder we stayed away from that play the rest of the game. Amazing. I agree with you. It seems as if we stay away from anything that works and have pass routes that insure our receivers are covered.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:22 PM ^
I feel like we have a Maserati but it’s missing two wheels, the transmission slips, and Shea can barely see over the steering wheel.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:25 PM ^
We have Maserati that belongs to our dad and his only rule is that we aren't allowed to take it on the interstate or go over 45 mph
December 29th, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
That, and it also needs some “TLC” but we’ve got a staff with too many used car salesmen and not enough mechanics.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
My Maserati goes 185,
but on third and fourth down I just run fullback dives
December 29th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
And that’s when the Millennium Falcon fail noise sounds.
