According to Dane Brugler, the top 10 QBs in the Draft:

Quarterbacks

  1. *Justin Herbert, Oregon (6-5, 238, 4.68)
  2. *Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State (6-3, 228, 4.77)
  3. Drew Lock, Missouri (6-3, 225, 4.78)
  4. *Daniel Jones, Duke (6-4, 222, 4.70)
  5. Will Grier, West Virginia (6-2, 224, 4.75)
  6. *Jarrett Stidham, Auburn (6-2, 219, 4.72)
  7. Ryan Finley, NC State (6-3, 212, 4.84)
  8. *Tyree Jackson, Buffalo (6-6, 248, 4.88)
  9. Gardner Minshew, Washington State (6-1, 223, 4.80)
  10. Easton Stick, North Dakota State (6-2, 222, 4.72)

It's settled.  Shea should come back

Shea is a good college QB, but he is not Drew Brees 2.0.  He has a ton of work to do before he will be able to play at the next level.

If Joe Milton is ready next year, I hope he wins the job.  Bigger arm, just as mobile.  Nothing against Shea but Milton is the future.

"Bigger arm" is accurate but in no other way have we seen anything from Milton to suggest that he's even close. Shea isn't Patrick Mahomes but his arm is pretty good, and he has shown a lot.

"The future" is a dumb reason to start a guy. Next year is "the present." Michigan may have missed its best chance to establish itself as an elite program, but next year is the last chance to have a great season with Harbaugh's first crop of solid recruits. You don't flush that just because Milton might be really good in a year or two.

Shea is better than some guys here, like Jarrett Stidham. But the finish to his season was not impressive. Against OSU he was only ok and missed some throws that could have sustained drives; before he got hurt, he had a couple of opportunities to make something happen that could have kept Michigan in the game and did not come through. For someone with his physical attributes, that "make plays" ability is important and he didn't show it.

He should return. And, if it doesn't go without saying, Michigan should utilize him more. Michigan has playmakers outside, and Shea has an arm that can get them the ball.

I did not have this position earlier in the year; I believed he had potential to be a top five guy, and next year's draft will be stacked. But there are at least four guys that I have seen enough of to KNOW they are a better pick than Shea and several others I haven't seen enough of (Jones, Ryan Finley, Stick) that might be, plus Minshew whose air raid abilities might hold more value in today's NFL.

Shea might be underrated a bit by this list, but based on what we saw on the field, not by much. He should return.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but Shea just isn't that great. Misses a lot of open throws and has issues with accuracy.

Hill and Long, on the other hand, should be on any top 10 list.

Wow Shea is not in the top 10 QB's for the NFL draft.  What complete fucking surprise to exactly no one with an IQ above single digits.

News Flash:  He isn't in the top 25.  Patterson might, and stress might be selected if the NFL draft had say 20 rounds.  I could see someone taking a flyer on him between rounds 18-20.

As I mentioned earlier, Shea's current "perception" is he is backup material at best in the NFL. His arm strength is not there enough for NFL guys. He can run but honestly he doesn't have water bug type moves enough for NFL teams to list him as a dual threat. He struggles in the pocket, he isn't consistent and doesn't have a Field General presence. Shea is a really good college QB but right now NFL talent he is not. Someone up the thread mentioned him transferring and honestly that might be the best thing for him to develop and showcase his talent. If he stays and plays in the same system he is not going to have a chance to showcase anything, not only that but if he doesn't hit a home run ( go undefeated and have 3750+ yds throwing with a completion rate above 68%) he may actually hurt his chances even more.
