Patterson and Winovich to play in Bowl Game..may be others sitting out

Submitted by The Baughz on December 9th, 2018 at 6:25 PM

Not much of a suprise, but Shae and Wino will be playing in the Peach Bowl.

Also, Harbaugh was asked if anyone else is sitting out the bowl game and he said he will let them announce it. So looks like the Bush and Higdon rumors may be true.

Saw this on Baumgardner’s twitter.

Not surprised with Winovich. He and Higdon agreed to play in Senior Bowl so you would be surprised if they didn't play in their last game in a Michigan uniform but then play in the Senior Bowl.  I know Devin said he is playing in Peach Bowl, but I wouldn't hold it against him if he changed his mind.  Don't blame any player that is 100% going into draft not playing.  Is there any player that can improve draft stock playing in Peach Bowl? Shea is probably the only one that could improve draft stock with a big day.  Hope he comes back, either way, glad he was here.  He could use another year, but can't blame a person for wanting to get paid for their craft.

One other point of note.  If anyone is fearful of getting hurt and hurting draft status, they shouldn't be in game.  Not being focused on game is a recipe for not playing well and/or getting hurt. Let's start getting more playing time for those that will be here next year.

Off topic but: has anyone thought that the emergence of Moody may have negatively effected our season? We know Jim is already conservative, but when Nordin became totally unreliable we drove the ball down the field with only the intention to score TDs instead of settling for FGs. Maybe instead of kicking so many FGs against Indiana and settling for FGs in the first quarter against OSU, TDs would have given us more moment and a better chances to win and against IU it just would have given the offense more reps/confidence. We settled too much at the end of the year instead of in the middle of the year when we didn’t have much to rely on and were forced to roll the dice and be aggressive.

It makes sense for Gary and Bush to sit out. But why would Higdon, Long, Hill, etc who aren't for sure in the top 3 rounds sit out? Another chance to improve your stock.

I think for the CBs it’s downside risk. Not for injury, but for getting torched. Those guys look great playing janky B1G QBs under constant pressure from our DL.

They're super lucky that the coaches couldn’t figure out how to scheme osu from picking on Watson, because that would have been a bad day for their draft stock.

I don't understand the idea of the bowl game being unimportant. It's important to the program, important for recruiting, important for momentum and important for most of the players. The idea that getting next years players additional reps in this game making a difference in their development is ludicrous. Play your best players, play to beat Florida. The end.

The bowl game is important, it's important for the team, the team, the team.  If players are going to start not playing in bowl games, how do we know that they are not going to give 100% against lesser teams during the season?  You cannot serve both the team, the team, the team, and money

Whether Shea stays or goes I'd like to see Milton get a lot of PT in the Peach Bowl. Let's see what he can do in extended action and give him a good base of experience going into next year. The game means next to nothing (especially if multiple starters sit out) so treat it like a preseason game for 2019.

“The crazy part this only hurt this University and this the reason 5* recruits don’t come here. I LOVE THIS UNIVERSITY AND THE THINGS HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED HERE BUT ITS TO MUCH POLITICS GOING ON AND TRUST AND BELIEVE ME RECUITS SEE IT AND HEAR IT”

I know a guy who worked with Sr in Sarasota School District for years. He has shared with my how upset and fed up he (Sr) is with the coaches. He feels they let his son down, and him not winning MVP was a slap in the face to him and his family

I hope everyone that is preparing for the league and is a high draft pick sits. It’s the safest option. They have done everything they can for Michigan. Playing in an exhibition and potentially ruining their futures isn’t worth it. Go Blue.

In five years the non-playoff bowl games are going to have a helluva problem marketing their product when dozens of the best junior and senior players are refusing to play.

In ten years the best junior and senior players will be routinely refusing to play games against lesser opponents.

I’m pretty sure the people complaining Michigan players shouldn’t sit out the bowl game aren’t on the team, so their opinions mean jack squat. These players are making individual decisions based on their future, like recruits who pick other schools and players who transfer (and they get crapped on too). It seems like the complainers want these guys to play for their own personal entertainment, which is exactly why they SHOULD be free to choose to sit out. Wake me up when a guy whose team is in the playoffs sits out.

It’s high time that the NFL runs a developmental league, so those who choose to put all their eggs in the “I’m going to the NFL” basket don’t have to go through the facade of going to school.   There is just so much phony bullshit going on, and the NFL is killing college football, as it has become the tail that wags the dog.  I get it why some choose not to play, but the notion of student-athlete gets blown up every time someone  chooses not to play because it puts their chances of going to “ the league” at risk.  That simple notion, starting a developmental league by the NFL, would clean up college football to a great degree.

So the players don't get paid (aside from their tuition) despite helping generate a TON of revenue, they generally endure penalties if they transfer (even with transfer restrictions gone, they'll lose a year of eligibility if they have already redshirted), they don't get to leave without penalty if the coach who recruited them takes another job, gets fired, or a new system comes in, but sitting out a corporate bowl game is wrong?  Riiiiiight.

I think it can be argued that the players are getting screwed and they should get a taste of the millions in revenue these teams are bringing in, BUT call me old fashioned if you want but all these players sign a contract that stipulates that they will play football in exchange for a scholarship and I think that's what they should do. Game 13 should be viewed the same as game 6. Keep your word. It's a simple concept.
