Urban Meyer stepping down from OSU

You sir, are a a fucking idiot.

This stinks. We want to beat that scumbag not cheer when he steps down.

OSU fan here. This isn't surprising. Am surprised he didn't announce this immediately after the B1G title game because I think there was a chance the committee would have given him the Tom Osborne sendoff and put OSU in the playoffs for one last epic Meyer v. Saban showdown (tied at 2-2 now). Meyer could have even had Scott Frost beg for him saying what a "great man" he is and he deserves that chance at a title.

As so many MGoBloggers confidently predicted when Harbaugh was hired, he drove Urban Meyer out of coaching. The lack of competition was just too much for the cyst to bear.

Yes, true
December 4th, 2018 at 10:41 AM ^
All I can say is you had your chance 7 times and came up bupkes. If Harbaugh lays another egg...
December 4th, 2018 at 11:06 AM ^
So you're saying there's a chance Harbaugh can beat osu??
GO BLUE!!

Cue the hagiography of Urban Meyer. At least one national reporter - Pat Forde - is able to write about Meyer's complicated past:

Am I too late for a "It is a new Day at OSU" joke?
December 4th, 2018 at 11:29 AM ^
Gosh, wouldn't it be nice to get to celebrate a head coach for ohio being let go for performance? The last two coaches that have left that school have done so after stomping us for a few years. If Harbaugh can't turn this around now that their coach is gone, I don't know if we ever can.

Well the best coach in the B1G now resides in Ann Arbor. Time for Michigan to go on a 10 year run of B1G's and a couple Natty's. Time for the OSU's, MSU's and PSU's to start threads whining about why they can't compete with Michigan and that Harbaugh is evil and start rumors of him heading to the NFL. Michigan Mondays will be a joyus read. I will enjoy reading all those wailing and gnashing of teeth posts on other forums.
One quick question, will the B1G championship next year be any less satisfying without Meyer? No!
December 4th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^
Uh..sure.
December 4th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
Really? Not to belittle anyone but the best coach in the B10 would not have lost the games Harball has in the past 4 years.

I’ve been watching the ESPN coverage of Urban’s retirement. IMHO he’s been forced out. Announcing his retirement at this point completely disrupts OSU’s recuiting. If he was just retiring WHY announce it this way?
December 4th, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
Sucks we could never beat that bastard on the field. Hope he gets his health back on the right track
December 4th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
If I were him and I was thinking of leaving, I would do it now too.
He gets to go out in the Rose Bowl, which he's never been to before, against a very beatable Washington.
He gets to leave undefeated against Michigan. *sigh*
He did not make the CFP, but he has made it before and won the whole thing.
There is no guarantee that next year is a better year, likely without Haskins.
It's probably time.

Will be rooting for UW to put an amboolance ride type beatdown on tPOSu.

Wonder if this is a Stoops stepping down so Lincoln Riley doesn't get poached situation.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:47 PM ^
While I agree it would have been nice to beat Meyer, it's sort of like when people said they wanted OSU to beat Maryland so The Game meant more. Sure it sounds good in theory, but Meyer is a really great coach.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
So... does this mean Urban is available to hire for a HC job?
Asking for ... a friend.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
good riddance
December 5th, 2018 at 12:23 AM ^
Forgive me for not reading all 7 pages of comments but is the consensus that this is 3 of the last 5 OSU HC's to "retire" in disgrace or 4 of the last 5?

Meyer is not leaving Columbus. He could even coach next year by remote control. As soon as Day stumbles (even losing once to Michigan) Meyer will return to lead the great Buckeye Nation to their rightful position as second only to Saban and Alabama’s.
