The argument for Michigan to stop scheduling tough OOC games
Raising this point again: if Michigan had scheduled a MAC team instead of Notre Dame, Michigan would still have an outside shot at making the CFP.

Until the committee changes its ways, don't schedule tough non-conference opponents. The risk of losing is not worth the reward.

Iron sharpens iron. Cupcakes make one fat and complacent.

Not that being fat and complacent makes you a bad guy.... it just doesn't make you sharper.

Honestly, we still have an outside shot at the CFP. Seriously ... NW blows out OSU, Bama blows out Georgia, and Texas beats Ok. I know that is unlikely. But that is where our ranking at 7 is important, depending on this weekend. Would that make me happy? No. Because I think you need to just win the F-ing games to get in. Don’t schedule weak teams. Instead, just win the F-ing games you have to play.

This is dumb and you should feel bad.

I have a better idea, why don't we beat OSU for a change and see how that impacts our playoff changes.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
Riddle me this, DB...
If we don't play a tough non-conference opponent on the road, how else would we convince ourselves we're better than we actually are?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
The Ohio State/Iowa rule says you can't go to the playoff if the committee remembers you getting your teeth kicked in, so Michigan would be outside looking in any way you slice it.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:52 PM ^
i'm guessing the people advocating for this actually don't pay and go to the games. ya, give me another akron for $200, alex.

I vote no.
Just win The Game.

Schedule an OOC cupcake before the OSU game like the SEC does.

I think this is quite smart actually, on their part. Get to rest starters who aren't healthy, play a lot of guys who don't play much on "Senior Day", and the possibility of a big score to look good and grab media/committe attention. I think the B1G out to adopt something similar, even (especially) if that means a couple of decent conference games in September.
November 29th, 2018 at 10:30 AM ^
Can't because you're in the middle of the conference schedule which ain't your say.
SEC/ACC do it because their conference season starts insanely early to compensate for ACC/SEC challenge weekend.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
No. They are great for players, fans, recruits, national media attention, and good for the game. Conference play is too insular, more so since it has been expanded.
G5 teams schedule P5 teams not just for the payday, but because playing these tough games (even getting their ass kicked) best show them where they are, and there they have to improve. With an insular conference like the B1G, it's good not to have to wait till the post-season to get any idea of the relative strength.
I am also glad Michigan will be play ND in October next year, as an interesting challenge and break from B1G play. I only wish the home and home rotation cycle was every two or three years, rather than consecutive years, to allow for more varied intersectional games in a rotation.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:35 PM ^
that is wack
November 28th, 2018 at 6:39 PM ^
I couldn't care less about the CFP, if we don't beat Ohio state then the season is a loss to me, and unfortunately I must remind many that this is my opinion.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, Army, UCLA, Notre Dame...we dumb.

Look in the stands at OSU last Saturday and you saw very little maize and blue!
Look at the stands the year before at UM and you see tons of Red! All we do is bitch and complain how our team sucks! It starts with supportive fans! Most of them on this board are fair weather fans!
Hell, last year many of you were calling for Beline to be fired! Support the teams and stop bitching! It’s sad to see all of the negitivity! It rips a program apart!

I think the NCAA should not count wins against FCS schools.
Bamas scout team could beat Chaminade, so why is that equivalent to beating a MAC or lower level FBS school? Go ahead and schedule cupcakes, but they should not count as wins.
November 28th, 2018 at 9:40 PM ^
A win against Rutgers is better than a win against ______?
November 29th, 2018 at 8:38 AM ^
So we would have been undefeated going into the game and got blown out by Ohio ? How much would that have hurt ?? Probably way more than it hurts now, and it would have been another feather in their hat .
November 29th, 2018 at 9:42 AM ^
While we're at it, let's make every game versus OSU at home and with a 2 touchdown head start, schedule Minnesota twice a year, and ban other teams from using field goal kickers. Wouldn't want to overcome any obstacles en route to the CFP.
What a bunch of millennial bullshit. Michigan-Notre Dame is what college football is all about. To hell with Notre Dame.
