We will improve

Submitted by Apureidiot on

I know I will get a lot of flak for the opening statement, but I don't know how I will put it.

Gentry's drop was reminiscent of some of Butt's drops.

Against ND, we have successfully run a variety of plays. Last year, we could not even throw for life.

We were able to successfully run against the interior ND DL, and our running backs were pretty darn good.

Ambry Thomas is a baller.

ND is overall a better team in continuity. We shouldn't be ashamed to lose to them when their squad has more players that know how to win. In fact, I think our O-Line and defense will improve significantly, and we will net significant wins this year as well.

Most people would not agree with me, but this looks a lot like the 2015 Utah game.

I hope I could see Michigan win now that I'm attending school here.

We could run the ball? Really? Looked to me like we got stuffed all night, except for a couple times when Higdon squirted through like toothpaste when someone hammers the tube

Of course we will improve, every team improves as the season goes along.  The problem is, I'm not sure the coaches are improving.  I see the same mistakes in coaching that we saw last year.  What is our offensive identity?  Why can't we field a competent OL?  Why does Brown not realize that on 3rd and long, you just have to stop them from getting a first down and it's ok to give up ten yards sometimes?  And while aggression might be nice, over pursuing isn't.

We are in year 4, I don't care about moral victories, I want a Big Ten championship.

I believe I am speaking for the majority here...

I can’t handle some of our fans. They are down right embarrassing and on top of it they feed all the trolls out there making it brutal to go on any social media. I love U of M and it goes much deeper than winning and losing a football game. Yes, I am disappointed in last nights outcome. I was, and am always, excited to see the team take the field for the first game. Last year showed lots of hope in the first game but then ended in a sub par season.  People forget these are games. Last year, sparty lost to ND at home early. Osu lost to Oaklahoma at home. Shit happens and its not the end of the season. If you can’t handle it, find something else to do and spare us your misery.... it’s tiresome.  One thing is for sure.  I’m going to hang my flag with pride in the front of my house all season because, well, it’s more than just winning and losing football games.

Good call.  OSU got dominated at home by Oklahoma, and if they would have only lost their second game by 10 instead of 30, they would have been in the playoff.  I'm disappointed about last night, too.  But I certainly saw some things that give me reason to believe this team can beat everyone left on their schedule.  This team still has everything in front of them.

Spare me your excuses. Harbaugh hasn't rebuilt anything. He has the same record as Hoke did.

Beilein runs the cleanest program in NCAA sports and wins while doing so and took over a team that was losing 20 games a year.

I'm 31 and I don't have time for excuses and fiction about what Harbaugh has done.

We are a laughing stock currently

It took coach B years to build his program. And unless you have cancer or some other terminal disease chill out with the  "I don't have time..." pout.  As for worrying about the team being a laughing stock, you must have not been paying any attention to the Rich Rod and Hoke era,

Exactly. These same clowns wanted Beilein gone in the middle of year four after not making the tourney in year three and starting of the season shaky in year four.

These clowns need to spare us this stupidity. Hoke could not beat Maryland and Rutgers.

Harbaugh rebuilt three programs from the bottom. He will do it again and do it the right way.

Any evidence of this rebuilding you would like to enlighten us on. I can see it talent wise, but the results seem to be missing. Wonder why that is? If this team (a very big "if' I might add) has a repeat performance of 2017 what effects do you think it might have on recruiting. It will not be good.

CarrBoMo

September 2nd, 2018 at 11:41 PM ^

Beilein made the NCAA tournament in year 2, won a Big Ten title in year 5 and was National runner up in year 6.

That's not "years" bud.

He does this without half the support and attention that the football team gets and barely finishing in the top 30 in recruit rankings.

We are arguably a bigger laughing stock than Hoke and Rich Rod years because of how boisterous Harbaugh was and the fan base was after his hiring.

If Harbaugh loses to State and OSU again he likely gets canned in 2020 barring some miraculous turnover when the talent on the roster is declining

Thanks for this. In light of all that has happened in college football, especially in our own division, it should be clear that other things take priority over winning. This is a massive rebuild; from ten years of transition. I would not want the rebuilding to be short cut by using any methods outside the Michigan way. I was disappointed last night, but made getting over the result much easier given the knowledge our coach is doing things the right way.

Peterson at Washington has done it in a very short time, much quicker than Harbaugh. I will assume you probably think he must be doing something shady. But hey, it's Harbaugh the prodigal son, lets give him however much time he needs and be happy with medocrity. That is what much of this fan base seems to be happy with. It can be done the "right" way in a shorter time than what your idol is doing. Just saying.

Who does Peterson have to play and beat every year to be successful? To my eyes their marquee win in the last few years was Colorado in 2016 (a team we beat), and a Stanford team with a rough defense that same year (who lost to Colorado). Our marquee wins that season were Colorado, Big Ten champion Penn State, and Big Ten runner up Wisconsin. Switch Michigan and Washington's schedules and we would have been in the playoff in 2016 just like they were. They were better than us last year but weren't replacing their entire team either. And Saturday they lost a one score game against a team with a legit defense because their qb was being pressured on every dropback.

You can't be serious! Everyone here would take the success that Peterson has brought to Washington in a heartbeat. Head to head Washington would curb stomp Michigan. Put Michigan in that conference and it would be no different that what they are accomplishing in the B1G.

I can't see how you can say that based on actual evidence available. Their best win so far under Petersen is still either Colorado in 2016 or Stanford in 2016. One of those teams were also beaten by Michigan, and Jim's wins over 2016 Penn State and 2016 Wisconsin are at least as good (but honestly, better) than that win they have over Stanford. They've played an extremely light schedule in a mediocre conference that doesn't boast a team that's a true national power right now. Last year they were able to go 10-3 by only beating one ranked team all year. If we do that this year we're likely to be 8-5 or 7-6.

My idol has three fully successful rebuilds under his belt, and is almost done with a fourth. All done the right way.  He had us within a literal inch of the playoff (along with some reall shady officiating).

There are many factors making this rebuild more difficult and time consuming. One significant factor is a complete lack of concern about any kind of ethics by the established teams in his own division. You may not care about ethics, but that is the Michigan way and I would not want it done any other way.

FWI, Shea's 227 yards passing would've been our the second highest total last year(somehow O'korn threw for 270 yd's vs Purdue).  And versus a top 10 defense like ND, I think that bodes well for us.

I seriously think Shea could set some yardage records for us this year.  Here's hoping the Win-Loss column will look just as sexy.  Otherwise we get to watch Padd Statford on Saturdays AND Sundays this year.

If the offensive gameplan is right I think he can do some things against MSU, OSU, and Penn State. None of those teams have been particularly good on the back end over the last couple of years. The coaches are gonna have to realize that we do not have the horses up front to play dink and dunk ball control though. We need fast developing plays, but less of them.

GangGreen_9

No, we are not going to improve, and ND isn't gonna even gonna sniff the playoffs.  Any good team they face, is gonna shut Wimbush's one-dimensional ass down.

Pretty certain you’ll improve a good amount. I don’t think your OL is good enough to prevent 2-3 more losses though. ( states is just as bad )

I’m a spartan, my kid is at UM...I’d say MSU and psu are 50-50 games for you, don’t see any way you can hang with osu and camp Randall will likely be too much.

You are delusional. Jim, at best, is Lloyd without the one national title Michigan has won in 70 years, Alabama has won 3 in the last 6 years. Hell, OSU has won 2 in the last 18. Can we be real here? UM doesn’t win national titles. Let’s hope for a big ten east title first

The most improvement a team sees is usually between the first and the second game.

We lost by ONE score at one of the toughest away game venues in the country to a team that is ranked higher than we are.

Could we have won? Yes.  Should we have won? Yes, had the defense not allowed 21 points.

But at the same time, some of you are acting as if we were blown out.  It was a ONE score game, people!

Patterson had 66 percent completion on his passes, with only one Interception. We had no false starts, and had over 300 yards in offense.  That's not bad.

I don't know how the rest of the year will pan out, but Harbaugh didn't suddenly forget how to coach after having three successful stops in San Diego, Stanford, and Frisco.

September 3rd, 2018 at 12:19 PM ^

If u think the game was one score your delusional as fuck. ND blew us out in every aspect of the game. It shouldn’t have been that close. A kick return TD and a TD with 3 min left in the game sums that up nicely. We could not protect the Qb and we couldn’t run the ball to save our lives. We need better oline play if we want to beat any of the big dogs on our schedule

goblue16

I’m not so sure how good you think they are. I still don’t see them winning more then 9 games. Which means they are not a team we should be losing to at this point in Harbaughs career. Now upsets happen all the time but this was not an upset. Notre Dame destroyed us in every aspect of the game. They are a superior team. I can bet you anything that MSU PSU OSU are better teams then ND. If we don’t show any improvement up front we won’t beat of these teams

Eight, nine years ago I stopped putting out my M flag. Seven years ago, i stopped listening to the fight song before the season. I stopped seeing games with Boston alumni club (all losses). Last year I stopped watching hype videos. Last year I didn’t watch OSU game. This year I won’t watch MSU or OSU. Whether they beat WMU or Indiana...who cares? We watch to see them beat ND, MSU, OSU. They cannot do that anymore.
