What's Your Coolest Piece of Michigan Memorabilia?

Submitted by Lakeyale13 on

Title says it all.  Mine is a collection of Upper Deck SP Rookie Threads cards that had the letters taken off of game used University of Michigan Football jerseys.  I got them to spell "MICHIGAN".  I will try to post a pic if I can. So what is yours?

Somewhere, I have a dusty and moldy JD diploma, but I have no idea where I stashed it.

So, in terms of something I have with me every day, it would be the gap where two of my wisdom teeth used to be, removed courtesy of the dental surgery grad students at the Dental School back before I received the aforementioned diploma, and their supervising prof,  who intervened after half an hour of no progress, as they had pretty much f*cked up the procedure.  He told them "Christ, that tissue looks like hamburger! What in the hell are you doing?" and took over. "Watch, here's how you do it" and was done in literally seconds.

But, at the end of the day, two wisdom teeth removed successfully, the "hard one" cost $15, the "easy one", $10. Lived on McDonald's shakes from the long-gone Maynard Street Micky Dees for a week.

And, then there's a scarlet and grey beanie snatched off the head of an distraught and despairing OSU alum at the end of the '77 victory, along with a handful of bobby pins and bleached blonde hair that came along with the beanie.

Eeeewwwwww!

I found an old Tom Brady jersey at a small vintage clothing store in Nacogdoches, TX by complete chance.  We were up there from Houston to check out Stephen F. Austin University for my daughter and as we were driving around campus my daughter wanted to stop in.  I almost talked them out of it but ended up going in I about cried when I found it.  The girl at the desk gave it to me for $4.

Picture celebrating with Bo right after the 97 national championship.

Picture of Denard putting his arms around my son (in mini Denard jersey) and daughter (in youth M cheerleader outfit) in Tampa the day before that Outback Bowl.

I have a regular sized UM football helmet autographed by Chris Perry.  I also have a photo of Desomond striking the heisman pose with his autograph on it.

Another interesting thing I have is basketball cards of the 1989 UM basketball team.  There is an individual card of each member of that team.

Either a small, signed photo of Bo, that I got from him at a fundraising dinner in TC, or a small jewelry/music box, with a picture of "The Victors" on it, that I got from an old friend from St. Ignace. I've never seen another like it.

He was the only other Michigander in a little town in WI, where I lived, and a diehard fan. He had a ton of stories about the team from the pre-Bo era.

RIP, Dave

I have a baseball from the early 90’s that both Bo and Ernie signed in opposite sweet spots. My middle school self sucked it up and found the courage to ask Bo for an autograph in Lakeland during spring training. One of the bravest things I’ve ever done.

I will go with my UM Hoverhelmet, that thing is so cool!  Also a Jabrill Peppers mini helmet with #5 and helmet stickers finely crafted from a fellow mgoblogger. That is a real sweet looking helmet! That is about as close as I can get to actual memorabilia, but they make me happy:)

When MBB won the 89 NCAA Championship, the Detroit News ran off some "plates" of the front page of the sports page with a picture of Steve Fisher cutting down the nets.  I called Fish and went over to his house and he signed the plate for me.  I have it framed and in my office.  Everyone notices it and comments.

I rarely log in to comment (see MGoPoints), but I've got a fun memorabilia collection for the music nerd that I am: original publications of "The Victors", "The Yellow and Blue", and "Varsity" and an original printing of the first "Michigan University Songbook".

A photo with Jamie Morris in the locker room. Sadly, I was so awestruck. Y touring the facilities I did not get his autograph, and I watched players work out from afar (RichRod years).

About 10 years ago I had Howard King record a personalized voice mail greeting on my cell phone. It went "Hello, and Good Afternoon! Welcome to ................'s cell phone. This is Howard King voice of Michigan stadium for 33 years.  If you'd like to leave a message........" And he ended it with "Thanks, and Go Blue!"

He said if I ever wanted him to redo it he would anytime, unfortunately he passed about two years ago.  Still it was an absolute pleasure meeting him and his wife and spending a couple hours with him.
