My high school math students will continue to progress through our content since we're 1:1 with Chromebooks. My Geometry students will be working through our curriculum online through all the online resources available with our new curriculum. I'll continue to monitor my email regularly to help answer questions. We're waiting to hear from our district on a way to do something like a group Skype video chat type thing that we could use to help answer questions. I'll be posting some help videos on YouTube as needed as well.
For my Pre-Calculus students, I was able to get to work super early yesterday in order to get them materials for the next unit. I'll be creating video lessons to post on YouTube or Edpuzzle for them to work through their notes and attempt the practice problems. Again, I'll be available through email, hopefully some sort of group video chat, and through the Remind app for questions.
There is a large population of our students that are on free and reduced lunch, so our district is working to provide breakfast and lunch 7 days a week while we're out. I'll probably end up helping with that some since I'm terrible at sitting around the house. Plans are still being finalized, but I believe it'll likely be delivered by bus to all the different bus stops or something like that. Also, for families that don't have wifi, I've seen that quite a few companies like Charter and Comcast are offering free wifi for two months to low income households with k-12 or college students. Some cellphone companies are lifting caps on data as well for the same population.
I teach at WO. It’s been a fun year so far for athletics. This ball team has a ton of chemistry and they play well as a team. Hoping for 2 more wins. #MakeEmSayWO
Fongers is good. He’s been with the show for quite a while but recently has been giving more input on air instead of just his behind the scenes producer duties. His play by play work is good too.
I don't know if this is a great spot to post this, but I don't think I can start my own post yet.
I was talking with someone today at work about the Big Ten Championship game. The person I was talking to is a big Wisconsin fan. We were both complaining about the divisions in the Big Ten. He's worried that if Wisconsin wins, they won't make the playoff due in part to the weaker schedule by being in the weaker division. That got me wondering, does anyone think that down the road the Big Ten will do away with the divisions and still keep the championship game? My thinking is that they could keep the championship game and the two teams that go to the championship will be the two teams that are ranked the highest in the CFP poll after the last week of the season. Thoughts?
My wife and I just finished a sale as a fundraiser for our adoption. Tons of friends donated their unwanted items for us to sell last weekend and this weekend. We ended up pulling in around $2200 between the 4 days, not including around $1200 that I sold online before the actual sale. That was way more than I thought we'd make. This was our first and probably last sale. It's a ton of work but was a big help towards our adoption costs.
Funny what you say about wearing green and white after a game. It reminds me of my Sparty neighbor who I watched go outside at midnight last night to fly his MSU flag for the first time all year.
I put a little Stabil in with the gas and then I still run it out. I don't like gas sitting in it all winter. At least what is left in the lines will have Stabil mixed in. This year I also emptied the oil and sharpened the blade so in the spring I just need to add gas and oil and I'll be good to go.
I am spending the morning working on lesson plans for next week and then I've got a moonlight softball tournament to play in tonight. I love playing softball but only committed to play today because of the bye week.
I can't start a thread, but wanted to share this. I had the chance to hear Coach Carr speak today to myself and the rest of the staff at West Ottawa, home of Rob Renes and Des Morgan. He had a nice speech including stories of his "that's a dumb question" halftime interview that got him in trouble with his wife, to Charles Woodson almost sitting out the '96 game at OSU, to reciting the poem "Casey at the Bat", which he had to memorize in 10th grade. He was very nice meeting with the staff and asking people things like where they earned their degree and what they teach. He signed autographs and took pictures with everyone after he finished. It was a fun day.
Congrats! I'm a teacher and my wife is hoping to land her first full time teaching position this year. It's a hard job that keeps getting harder, but it can be very rewarding at the same time. Good luck!
I teach Geometry and Algebra 2. I have a lot of students the struggle with geometry, then pick things back up in Algebra 2. It does sound like the class isn't structured the best too. Does the teacher just pull a section from the book each day? We got rid of our books and rewrote our materials just the way we want them. Also, I don't assign homework, just "home fun" which is just like homework but it doesn't sound quite do bad.
My uncle played baseball with Barry at Michigan. I think they still occasionally keep in touch over the phone. My uncle was pretty close with Hal Morris too.
1. Teacher 2. 2010 Toyota Yaris and my wife replaced her 1998 Ford Escort Wagon in Nov. when someone hit her and we now have a 2015 Nissan Versa. 3. I'm to cheap to care what others think. There are other vehicles I'd rather drive but I have grad school to pay for as well as IVF treatments. (Shameless plug: http://www.gofundme.com/gvs5wo)
I can't start a thread but I just saw an interesting comment Devin Gardner posted about Wellman as a comment under his Instagram picture he tweeted. I can't post the pic and comment on my phone but it was about "fake it until you make it". Looks like he put on some muscle.
I'm not a fan of clothes on dogs, but I told my wife it was ok to buy Buddy a football jersey. He loves barking at the Sparty neighbors. If you're interested in helping Buddy gain at least one human sibling, please check out this link: http://www.gofundme.com/klassenbaby We would appreciate any shares of the link or donations. Fun fact...a few weeks ago former Michigan great Steve Hutchinson shared this link on his Twitter account. Thanks and GO BLUE!
What do the players do during a bye week? Yesterday, after morning practice, Desmond Morgan drove back to Holland to say a few words to a crowd of 2,200-2,500 during his high school's Homecoming Assembly. He got quite the welcome following a video clip of some of his high school highlights along with his interception against UCONN. It's great to see Wolverines that are always willing to give back and not forget where they came from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4tjonTiqRw&feature=youtu.be
I know this doesn't really fit in here, but I didn't know if I was able to make a new post. I was at work today and was covering a friend's classroom for an hour and saw something that made me laugh out loud while the students were testing. Next to this teacher's desk was a MSU poster that said:
"Spartan Fans, Raise Your Shield"
Spartan sportsmanship embodies the dignity and respect that comes with being a Spartan.
81% of MSU fans in the stands attend games without being intoxicated.
82% of MSU fans in the stands dispose properly of the trash they brought into the parking or tailgate areas.
97% of MSU fans in the stands think it is acceptable for coaches and players to shake hands with their opponents after the game.
I laughed at sportsmanship, dignity and respect. Also, being a math person, I looked at this in a different perspective. Basically:
19% of MSU fans in the stands attend games intoxicated.
18% of MSU fans in the stands litter or don't clean up after themselves.
3% of MSU fans in the stands don't think it is acceptable for coaches and players to shake after a game.
I saw one a little bit ago that said "Erin Andrews make me a sandwich". Yeah...cool sign sparty. Also, they seem to be proud of their thugs with all the signs about Gholston and the one saying "Plax was framed".

The swoosh is in two different spots.
Charles Woodson’s chinstrap autographed by him.

You'll have to skip ahead about a quarter of the way to get to Harbaugh's speech.
