Wimbledon semifinals
With a seemingly large amount of avid tennis fans who frequent this site, I'm surprised this thread was not created. Right now it's Isner (his first ever major semifinal) versus Anderson. It has been a great match thus far, as the first set went into a tie break. After this will be an epic match between Nadal and Djokovic. Federer's match the other day was fantastic and I'm surprised he lost. He had match point in set three, but lost in five sets.
Eh....Both of these guys come from country’s that are racist so why watch.
So many things wrong with this post; but which should I correct?
I'll go with grammar. I'm sure you meant to write this:
"Eh...Both of these guy come from countries that are racist. So, why watch?"
What else is wrong with it? Please tell me how what I said isn’t true. Isner is an open supporter of President Trump.
You’re embarrassing...
Lol. Glad you get my point.
Uh..IIIRC you were the one who started a #NoPolitics thread two days ago right?
Correct. After starting that it was clear the mods didn’t care that more people agreed with me than disagreed. They just continued to let people say political crap throughout without banning anyone so..... I guess this is a political blog now. Let’s talk politics!!!
Cool man. Honestly I think we should be talking politics in some capacity. In a respectful manner. Otherwise it just degenerates into name calling and stuff. After all it's a free country. Sort of nowadays.
What else is wrong with it?
You do know that South Africa abolished apartheid a quarter-century ago?
Hope you're enjoying what should be your last day on the blog.
Can we please stop... with the inflammatory tennis remarks?
The only two countries in which I have lived!
I think Anderson and Isner could save us all a lot of time by just playing 5 tie breakers. That's where this is headed any way.
Of course I forgot there is no fifth set tie-breaker at Wimbledon. Who knows, Nadal and Djokovic may have to wait until tomorrow to play.
Why? There are lights on Centre Court.
Yeah, but Isner's been known for playing rather long matches at Wimbledon.
I'm well aware of that match, but it doesn't matter since there are lights. They won't reschedule the next match.
Is that match scheduled to be played on Centre Court also? Would they change the venue if this one goes long?
They can only play until 11pm GMT (there's a curfew according to the announcers, and the facility shuts down), so there's a good chance the second semi will have to be split between tonight and tomorrow local time.
That curfew seems silly. These are adults and it's a major semifinal.
Reminds me a lot of Roddick. Lots of sets that go to tiebreak. I hope he pulls it out.
Saw all 4 of these guys play last week...it was amazing.
Two massive servers in this first one. Good so far and sets going to tiebreaks as expected.
Whoa - a set that did not end in a tie break! Maybe there is hope these guys can finish today so we can see Rafa and Novak.
4-3 Isner in the fifth.
This match could end in 10 minutes, or in 3 hours. Seriously.
Anderson back in the same position as two days ago...serving to stay alive.
Motoring onwards, on serve, Isner up 7-6 in the fifth.
Clutch volley from Isner at 0-30.
And the beat goes on......8-7 5th Set.
Isner recovers from a break point in a tough game, still rolling. 8-7. He's starting to struggle a bit, though.
The type of tennis in this match compared to what will be seen between Nadal and Djokovic could not be more different. I'm an Isner mark because he's an American and because he's tall, but either guy here will probably get demolished on Sunday.
Anderson should've been demolished on Wednesday too but we saw what happened...you never know. I'll happily root for either of these gents in the Final. Especially if against whiny Novak.
You never know. But still, Rafa and Novak are terrific at serve returns. They'll get breaks. Hard to see Anderson or Isner even approaching the same level.
Isner gets to deuce, but Anderson comes back with two points to level the set at 9-9.
Isner just loves these marathon Wimbledon matches.
This match is unreal. Go Isner. Get an American into finals.
10-10.
Isner saves another break point. Great game, match still going.
I would say no end is in sight, but Isner can't keep winning these games where he goes down early forever. Either he comes up with a miracle break or Anderson is going to capitalize soon.
5 hour match here.
Ridiculous that Serena plays 1 hour for same pay.
Just saying.
I think most tennis fans are pushing for best of 5 for women at majors, too. It's not Serena's fault.
And as I talk about Isner struggling, he holds at love, and it's 12-11.
Still 6 hours to go to match his record match. You never know.
12-All. Let's start the 7th set now.
15-14....still on serve.
All those in favor of a 5th set tie-break at Wimbledon, say Aye.
Count me in.
If they ever did institute such a thing (chances are < 5%) it would be called the Isner rule.
Not me...that 2010 70-68 Isner win was epic.
I'm still having a blast watching this...what else do you have to do?
Watch Nadal v. Djokovic
They'll be on eventually...you'll get to watch Nadal pound that crybaby, patience mate :)
No way!!! I can't stand that 5th set tiebreak in US Open. Make someone break!
It turns the match into a boxing match of sorts...mind over matter when both players are that exhausted!
No, I think this is amazing to watch.
The problem with the drama of a match like this is that it's all in the tension, not in the action. Basically waiting for someone to string a couple of mistakes together to lose their serve.
But it's still riveting. 17-16 now.
Whoa - double break point!
