Help celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it.
But in all seriousness, keep your dogs and cats inside so they don't get freaked and bolt.

Many people don’t know that Thomas Jefferson passed on the 50th anniversary of July 4th, 1776 declaration. On his death bed, he wrote a letter in which he declined an invitation to the celebration, with some beautiful words:
“May it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all,) the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings & security of self-government. that form which we have substituted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. all eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view. the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god. these are grounds of hope for others. for ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them.”
Happy Birthday everyone!
We started our celebration last night, with my four children (and two in-law children) giving the fireworks a trial run in the back field. I sat and watched the flashes and sparkles and listened to the laughing, teasing, enthusiastic conversation between the six young adults. I don't know what could be better. Thank God for families and the freedom this country gives us to live as we choose. Go Blue (and red and white, too, I guess)!
Thank you Caesar Rodney! Happy Independence Day!
Caesar Rodney arrived in Philadelphia muddied and in his boots and spurs just as another vote for independence was about to take place on July 2, 1776. Rodney cast his vote for independence, breaking Delaware’s tied vote. South Carolina and Pennsylvania changed their vote and voted for independence. New York still abstained from voting on the basis that its delegates had no specific instructions, but the Continental Congress now had its unanimous support for independence from all voting colonies.
Caesar Rodney’s midnight ride to Philadelphia would have been a strenuous ride for just about anyone, but it was even more taxing on Rodney who was of ill heath; suffering from, among other things, asthma and cancer of the jaw.
Happy Independence Day.
An armed populace who were taxed excessively with no say decided that they had enough. Bless those who love freedom and are willing to fight for it (Oh and Brian as well).
