If Japan and Senegal get out of the group with Columbia and Poland...well that would be very entertaining in a chaos way. Probably less entertaining in quality soccer way at least if Columbia is eliminated. But with the US not even making it, I just want chaos. And for Mexico to lose badly.
Man, Senegal is fun to watch. So fast and athletic, and for being considered the underdog here, surprisingly organized and sharp
I'm really interested to see if Mo Salah plays. If not, Russia is looking really good to make it out of their group.
Hmm, Poland not out of this yet?
Oh my
The officiating this tournament has been so good and then this Senegal/Poland game is a complete clown show.
Alexi Lalas....... is a tool. Comes off as a douchebag to me. Maybe it’s me.
No you have it correct. US soccer media/journalist are pretty lame. Most of them are just a mouthpiece to Don Garber.
It's not just you. Sometimes when I listen to him on podcasts, he says some genuinely insightful things, and to here him talk about preparing to be on air, he does a lot of research. Then by the time he distills everything into the few minutes he has to talk on air, it ends up being just another Hot Take with no insight.
It is not just you, he has an obnoxious, alexi knows all air about him, and honestly hes not that great of a pundit, analyst, and pretty much just hammers whatever nail everyone else has already hammered.
I like him, though admittedly I have a fondness for gingers
I couldn't agree more about Lalas, Toledo. I think his studio mates hate him too. Did you hear the guy push back at him today? He said something like "Are you coming after me now?" Seemed like real tension.
Dude loves his own hot takes, and seems to think he's the genius in the room.
However you feel about Russia, you have to say their national anthem is pretty badass.
Salah is starting, let's see what he can do.
This is pretty intense. A lot of action so far.
#21 on Egypt goes by his nickname Trezeguet. All I remember is him missing the PK in the 06 WC.
Russia has a guy named Jerkoff.
Lol. I also laugh every time one of the announcers have to dance around that name.
Also so I heard them say something about Fernandez and all I could think was, well what fucking team is he on???
OK, I just busted a gut laughing at your comments.....made my day!
To be fair, Trezeguet also scored the golden goal in the 2000 Euro (also against Italy). He was a great striker for Juventus/France.
06 was right around the time that I started to really get into soccer. So my first impression of Trezeguet was him hitting the cross bar. But, you are right, he did have a great career with Juve.
The ref's really letting these guys play. Very few fouls being called.
It seems like there have been more OG and PK this world cup.
Wow Fernandes with the dream shake to set up that goal. I guess that is the Brazillian flair he brings to the team.
Did anyone else see the Block M flag being held up?
Whoah! Did anyone catch that U of M flag? Was that just me?
Is Hotel Putingrad at the match?
In spirit
Looks like Russia is just going to blow everyone out. They came prepared to this, which is a lot more than you can say about some of the favorites.
Nice M Nation flag in the crowd after that last Russia goal.
Rooting for Russia, England, Portugal, and Brazil...who would've guessed Brazil would be the most disappointing side thus far?!
I don't know about that. I think Colombia today was a huge let down. Same with Poland.
At least Brazil got a result, and they played a pretty damn good team.
I have to say that I am in the enamored with the review process in the World Cup. They do this so quickly and so decisively. Why cannot we replicate this review efficiency in American sports like football and basketball?

I think being off site helps it move along. The ref wont walk over to the sideline to check for himself if he doesn't need to.
